The Star Wars Retro Collection is inspired by the 1980s STAR WARS figures and features original figure design and detailing! Continue your collection from the galaxy far, far away!
The Retro Collection wave of figures based on The Book Of Boba Fett may be Hasbro’s laziest effort this far in the line. This format is a CHEAP action figure line to make. So why are they rehashing existing sculpts to bring collectors “new” figures in the newest case assortments? Called The Mandalorian on The Book Of Boba Fett entertainment logo, this version of Din Djarin is a repaint of 2022’s RC The Mandalorian (Beskar) figure with a few changes here and there. The soft-goods cape looks identical to the first release. The fabric isn’t reminiscent of any vintage Kenner soft goods used during that time. It has a spongy texture and a mostly singular drape. It seems too rigid for what it should be on the figure. Underneath the cape is a molded JT-12 jetpack. It has beautiful detail and looks nice on the figure. But the figure comes with two other accessories, including a blaster pistol and a “darksaber,” which is nothing more than the lightsaber first released with 1980’s ESB Luke Skywalker (Bespin Fatigues) figure cast in silvery gray plastic. Our sample had a bend to it, and we’re not sure if that was intentional or not to recreate the natural curve seen in the darksaber weapon onscreen, but it’s nonetheless there. The Mandalorian interacts with its accessories well. We don’t believe that with all of the new characters introduced into The Book Of Boba Fett series, we needed to see a re-release of this action figure, but this is the hand Hasbro dealt to us for this hobby. Due to how Disney handles things, Hasbro will likely play “catch up” for the duration they make Star Wars action figures, as this wave of Retro Collection is even behind the Disney+ series by a notable amount of time. It’s not like collectors are thrilled about the Retro Collection line, but these appear to be staples with the current Hasbro Star Wars team. We wonder if any of them have visited Ollie’s recently. The Mandalorian has an MSRP of $11.99. It feels much too high for what this action figure is. It does pair laughably well with the Fennec Shand figure in the same case assortment.
