Boba Fett (Prototype Ver.) - Vinyl Collectible Dolls

Medicom Toy is always good for releasing obscure characters and unique versions of characters in their very prolific line of distinct collectibles. From their Kubrick line to the Real Action Heroes line, the selection of characters are always intriguing and make for truly standout collectibles. As if the Vinyl Collectible Dolls line isn't unique enough as is, Medicom Toy has just released the Boba Fett (Prototype Ver.) VCD as the 2010 Celebration V exclusive and the final results are completely amazing. Boba Fett (Prototype Ver.), which really hasn't been attempted yet by Hasbro in their own line, seems like a no-brainer choice. And the VCD brings originality to a well-established format that is garnering more and more collectors as time rages forward. Sadly, it appears that fans of the 3.75" line will have to wait a little longer for it to be made, but at the very least, they can find a way to get Medicom Toy’s cool VCD version into their collections instead. Trust us, you probaly don’t want to be without this beautiful collectible.

Medicom has two styles of their VCDs and Boba Fett (Prototype Ver.) is part of the super-deformed facet. And there really isn’t any other way to describe the piece except for that it looks fantastic. He has the Jaeg eyes painted on his helmet, which was only seen on this prototype version of him. And he looks an awful lot like the Kenner vintage figure, as he rightfully should. The extra use of primary colors make his uniform pop and the extra armory and weaponry give him that threatening super-trooper stature. The prototype version of Boba Fett is really all that Kenner had back in the day to develop their action figure, so you will find a lot of similarities. And you will also see some trademark markings like the "half circles" on his gloves that made it to the first neo-classic version of Boba Fett in The Power Of The Force line in 1995, on which that now-classic figure is evidently based. So this VCD version of Boba Fett captures a lot of history in one fell swoop. It is pretty cool for these reasons alone.

As with most Medicom Toy products, the colors are spectacularly painted on Boba Fett (Prototype Ver.) and the finest details are flawlessly applied. Boba Fett (Prototype Ver.) is a repaint and retool of the previously released 2004 Boba Fett VCD; the original was based on Return Of The Jedi. Most of Medicom Toy’s VCDs have rather generic poses. Yet Boba Fett has the most stylized stance of all the VCDs. His head is cocked and tilted to the side and it’s one of the best poses we have ever seen on Boba Fett. It captures his attitude well. What’s more, he also comes with a prototype version of his blaster. And his most distinguishing characteristic, his left shoulder armor plate has a "prototype" symbol in place of where the bantha skull would normally sit. It may be our most favorite detail on this piece. Made in an extremely limited supply, collectors of this line were very fortunate that Sideshow Collectibles was the distributor of choice to make a few of these available to those who couldn't attend CV. At $99.99, this is a very expensive piece and sadly overpriced. But Boba Fett seemingly is the focus of 2010 and it is truly awesome to get a version of him that doesn't see the light of day too often at all!
