Captain Typho - TLC - Basic (BD 47)

Gregar Typho is Senator Padmé Amidala's head of security and an able starfighter pilot. He is diligent and capable in the performance of his duties, yet he is up against devious enemies who will stop at nothing to eliminate Padmé.

Captain Typho is another Episode II figure that was a long time coming. While we did first get him (but in a Naboo pilot outfit) in the first wave of figures that launched the 2002 Star Wars “Saga” line, it only represented him specifically to that scene at the opening of the film. Now looking more like a true captain of security than ever before, we now have a (nearly) definitive version of Captain Typho. Reminiscent of an outfit worn by one of the Naboo security guards, it is evident that similar concepts in uniform design have been applied to the outfit seen on him on Coruscant. Although he appears a bit short (especially when compared to the other figures in this wave), we have been assured by Hasbro that the heights given to our current action figures now are properly scaled based on the reference materials they have from Lucasfilm, Ltd. His uniform is very sharp and colored excellently. Hasbro obviously spent quite a bit of time to nail his costume perfectly. They succeeded and have given us a truly spectacular figure. Of course, with all things great there are some imperfections. Thankfully, Typho's tiny issues are not a big deal at all. One small issue in particular that has surprised us a bit is Typho's eye color. Hasbro has given him baby blues and it seems to contradict his brown eyes that we saw in the film and production stills. Unless we are off base here, eye color should not be that big of a deal to nail. Perhaps it is just the way they appeared in the film, but it is something that stands out in our minds and we think it is off. And while the actor who played Typho clearly has a rounded face, Hasbro decided to go with a facial structure that is chiseled. While these two "portrait" issues would seem to make the figure inaccurate, something overall about the figure resembles the actor very much. And the figure does nothing but add a spectacular touch to our Episode II subset of figures!

Obviously, Captain Typho is an incredibly crafted action figure, but he also comes with an impressive collection of accessories that are also well-crafted! Captain Typho has been well armed by Hasbro and his accessory parts fit very well into their “homes” on his body. He includes a Naboo army-issue thermal detonator (that is extraordinarily tiny - be careful because this is a piece that will get lost) as well as a detailed blaster pistol. Both accessories stay in place very well in the holes that were engineered for them on the figure's frame and these pieces complete his already complex uniform with excellent results. Captain Typho rivals some of the best action figures out there and because he is also super-articulated, it gives the collector great options for various poses and displays. Due to the nature of his character type, Typho may need to be posed in a magnitude of ways to perform all of his protection duties, and Hasbro has afforded us this opportunity thankfully. Yet when needed, Captain Typho can stand erect and upright as if he is at attention when needed, too. We certainly didn't expect Typho to get all of this super-articulation attention, but it works very well (of course) and exceeds our own action figure standards. Additionally, the paint applications are done flawlessly. The lines are clean and the color palette is sheer perfection. His uniform is well-fitted and his removable cap is a very nice touch. The cap detail was not expected at all and we honestly love removable accessories like this cap (but only if they fit like a glove when you need then to stay on the figure’s head)! It isn't too big for his head and has a great fit. Hasbro didn't really need to make this detail a reality for us so we’ll consider this “gravy”!

Captain Typho is yet another fabulous addition to The Legacy Collection. He is a figure we needed (badly) and how wonderful to get him now when the articulation standards are so high! Hasbro action figures has come so far (even only since 2005) and Captain Typho is an example of a figure that will likely never need to be revisited. This is indeed the definitive Captain Typho figure for now and perhaps ever! And you may not want to wait too long to pick him up. While any figure is a candidate for reissue, we don't expect this one to make a repeat performance at retail. Most importantly, Hasbro has confirmed that the wave in which he is part of will be produced in the shortest run of The Legacy Collection so we recommend that you do not hesitate if and when you see this wave in the wild. As part of a collection of figures not full of main characters, this is the wave to assist you in filling the dioramas with background characters. Captain Typho is half main character, half background character, so he will no doubt be important to some of you out there. Obviously Hasbro has collectors in mind when they designed him. We love security characters and Typho is undoubtedly a sharp-looking security guard. Characters like these are always welcome into our collections! The Legacy Collection has been accused of being quite lackluster by some collectors, but we feel that many of the action figures in the line are not getting their due credit. We fear Typho may be one of these. This particular Attack Of The Clones grouping of figures is anything but unimpressive, especially Captain Typho! He has an excellent sculpt, is loaded with articulation, and is beautifully colored. He will absolutely make quite an impact on your collections!
