A tall, pale-skinned humanoid, with distinctive, curling lekku and a pulpy chin roll, Bib Fortuna is the very epitome of male Twi'lek glamour. But, in truth, beneath the pallid complexion and behind soulless, pink eyes beats the limp heart of a cowardly Hutt lackey. Though he exalts in the respect and obedience his station, as majordomo to one of the Outer Rim's most feared crime lords, demands from those around him, Bib knows he is really little more than an errand boy and vassal for the will of his bloated master.
Under Jabba the Hutt's direction, the Twi'lek lieutenant orchestrates shady deals in illicit substances and contraband. At his master's bidding, he trades in slaves of his own kind, purveying and exhibiting their bodies for Jabba's amusement and that of his sycophantic guests. Little of the wealth and power that passes through Bib's clawed hands ever remains his own to keep. Even the acts of ambitious treachery that elevated him to the position of a Hutt's second were merely blind plays, made by a weak-willed man, caught in the tide of the criminal underworld and trying to stay afloat. The Twi'lek even fancies that he might one day overthrow the slug in some kind of glorious mutiny, seizing Jabba's assets as his own, but if he were truly capable of such a steely initiative, it would have happened long ago.
Now it is too late, for with the arrival in Jabba's desert palace of two droids, gifts of the self-proclaimed Jedi Skywalker, the dice are tossed in a game of fate far bolder than Bib could have conceived. Time has run out for Jabba and his criminal empire, and his acts of self-aggrandizing debauchery will finally swallow him and those who serve him too, for the Jedi are returned.
When Sideshow Collectibles thrilled fans with their Scum & Villainy 1:6 Scale Jabba The Hutt, most knew that some of Jabba's entourage would be coming shortly. That was true but only from a certain point of view. Bib Fortuna was quickly announced about a week later, but then the sub-line came to a halt (save for a few Creature Packs). It's quite a shame that more haven't been announced but where Hasbro has fallen short with quantity, they more than made up for it with quality. Bib Fortuna may not be anything extraordinary, but he has it all where it matters. The figure has been made utilizing the inferior Art S. Buck body type, but the head sculpt is nothing short of stunning. His complexion is the typical pinkish beige it was in Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi and his red and orange eyes pierce yours as they standout against his pale complexion. His head tails are gross and creepy and have been expertly sculpted and place atop his head to look authentic. His mouth is open and he is showing his teeth to show off their razor sharp details. Bib Fortuna is an excellent execution by Sideshow Collectibles and we really cannot wait until they can deliver more incredible creatures and aliens from the Star Wars films. They have a lot to knock out and we hope the pace picks up.
Bib Fortuna not only has a splendid head sculpt, he also has wonderfully sewn clothes. His outer cape is multilayered in two different colors and the texture is immediately reminiscent as felt or moleskin. It has a very nice drape and has been constructed in blocked layers that are simply stunning. And the layering of his costume doesn't stop there. His pants and shirt are colored in teal and the "metal" portions of his costume including his chest plate and cuff bracelets share this same teal color via a wash. Bib also has a tapered cummerbund that goes around his chest armor to hold everything in place. A nice feature is that you can store his dagger in the cummerbund just like the 2005 TSC Bib Fortuna (SAGA 003) action figure. And speaking of the dagger, it is one of the sharpest accessories we have ever received to date. The point could easily puncture your skin so we recommend exercising caution when "playing" with this figure. He also comes with an interchangeable set of hand (both pointing) as well as a drinking glass. But perhaps his strangest accessory is one that actually belongs to Jabba and Sideshow labels it as "Jabba's favorite frog-like snack food". It's one of the creatures that floats in his bowl and it has been designed excellently for something that is so small. We just aren’t so sure why they gave this as an accessory to Bib Fortuna. Does he stock Jabba's bowl? Does he hand feed Jabba when no one is looking? (We're worried now.)
If you collect the exclusive versions of Sideshow's awesome 1:6 Scale Figure line, then you get a real treat with the exclusive version of Bib Fortuna. Sideshow replicated in 1:6 Scale the ceremonial staff that was included with the 3.75" figure from the original vintage line. This clearly pays homage in a very special way to the vintage figure and we honestly can't think of a better accessory than this to make an exclusive version. Being a collector in this day in age is really a special thing. Not only do we get extremely movie accurate and authentic figures, but we also get things included with these amazing products that job our minds and bring our affection for that toy line from long ago to a whole new level. Sideshow is certainly clever with how they can entice us to buy their products and we think they really can't do it any better. The Scum & Villainy line however needs many more characters added to it and we hope that we aren't too far off from that. We need more Jabba's Palace aliens and we would love to see what they could do with characters from Chalmun's Cantina. While we wait more great characters to head our way, Bib Fortuna is certainly a 1:6 Scale Figure that will be an incredible addition to your 12" figure line. With over 7500 total pieces made, Bib Fortuna should not be difficult at all to get into your collection at a very reasonable price. We just recommend getting him in your collection someway or somehow.
