Can-cell With Anakin Skywalker - TCW [R] - Deluxe

Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano hitch a ride on a can-cell to escape the villainous Asajj Ventress. The Jedi and his Padawan face their foe on the monastery's landing platform on Teth. Anakin leaps onto the giant dragonfly and saves Ahsoka and Rotta the Hutt just as spider droids destroy the platform and it hurtles to the ground far below.

The Clone Wars film was familiar to Star Wars fans everywhere. While we were introduced to a plethora of all new characters, many had been seen before it in the various live action films. The Can-cell, which made its first appearance in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith, was brought back to the Star Wars universe for an intense scene in The Clone Wars film. It then was likely that it would also return to the toy line. And that’s exactly what happened. The Can-cell started out life as a very large accessory to 2005’s ROTS Yoda Deluxe figure. The beast did appear in Episode III, but not with Yoda on its back. That may have been in the very early drafts of the film, but the final version had the Aleena Jedi, Tsui Choi, instead. (That figure was eventually released in the Order 66 series.) But now our favorite hero from The Clone Wars takes his turn at riding this large insect and for the first time ever, we feel that this beast is appropriate for release in the toy line. (It just didn’t make sense that Jedi were riding large insects in Episode III. Apologies if you disagree.)

The Can-cell has been repainted a little bit more brightly to help better match the animated version we see in The Clone Wars film. All of the action features are still in place and the wings are still removable. The legs unfortunately seemed to have been cast in a softer plastic and the legs don’t support its heavy body as well, making it very difficult to stand this beast up without it looking like it has had too much to drink. As a The Clone Wars item, it’s cool. It’s another cheap way for Hasbro to pad The Clone Wars deluxe line while bringing something fresh to the table. We honestly don’t mind this either. They have made the Can-cell different enough from its movie counterpart and it just looks more believable and fits in better with The Clone Wars line. It’s a very wide beast so it may take up space in your displays that you won’t be able to sacrifice. The included Anakin Skywalker figure nicely complements the beast, but Rotta and the backpack should have been included so this set was more faithful to the scene in the film.

The included Anakin Skywalker figure is a repaint of the figure that came in 2008’s TCW [B] B’omarr Monastery Assault Battle Packs set. And that figure is a retool of 2008’s TCW [B] Anakin Skywalker (No. 1) figure. (Hasbro updated the basic figure by giving him articulated legs and a soft-goods skirt. The skirt doesn’t look as good, but it allows the newly articulated legs to move much better.) The new paint job on Anakin is done very well. The lines are clean and the colors match beautifully. It goes without saying though that you’re likely buying this set for the Can-cell, but this updated version of Anakin Skywalker is cool also. He comes with a lightsaber and we have only been successful at displaying it in his left hand. Hasbro has a large palette of concepts before them that they can cull from The Clone Wars film and they have plenty of tooling to see these concepts to fruition. We hope they can continue to positive trend and even shake things up a bit to make the Deluxe figures line a little bit more aggressive.
