Anakin and Padmé fly to Geonosis to rescue Obi-Wan, who has been captured by the Separatists after following Jango Fett from Kamino. The pair land below the planet's surface and enter a huge droid factory, where they are immediately attacked by Geonosian workers. In their attempt to escape the hostile natives, they fall onto conveyor belts and frantically try to avoid being killed by the hazardous machinery. Meanwhile, C-3PO is "headed" for trouble on a droid assembly line as R2-D2 blasts into the chaos to help his endangered friends.
It is quite a phenomenon when a multipack of just average figures becomes more special as the sum of all the included figures and pieces. If you look at the Droid Factory Capture Battle Packs set piecemeal, you’ll likely be rather disappointed. But if you take a few moments to appreciate how the figures are packaged together and the choice of characters, you’ll quickly realize that this isn’t a set you should initially dismiss. Culled from a very popular scene in Attack Of The Clones that begins when R2-D2 and C-3PO are up to their usual “Mutt and Jeff” shenanigans in the Droid Factory through the point where Anakin Skywalker surrenders before a Destroyer Droid and Jango Fett, the set is a great value and will likely benefits the kids more than collectors. The only collector oriented figure included is the Anakin Skywalker figure (which first was released in 2005’s ROTS Anakin Skywalker To Darth Vader Evolutions set) so don’t expect the articulation or quality of figures to wow you because they won’t.
Droid Factory Capture comes with C-3PO which was first available as 2006’s TSC C-3PO (With Battle Droid Head) (SAGA 017) figure. Hasbro then dug a bit deep into their back catalogue and pulled out 2003’s SW [S - P2] R2-D2 (Droid Factory Flight) (’03 #09) figure. This figure is nothing but a debacle to be quite honest with you and it really doesn’t fair better in this Battle Packs set. Unfortunately, Hasbro doesn’t have that many choices when it comes to R2-D2 with rocket boosters attached to his legs, so this figure will have to do. Hasbro did remove the string attachment which he “climbed” via an action feature. The third leg pushes up into the body and forces out the two rockets on the legs. Other than that, R2-D2 is a total bust. The last droid in the set is the Destroyer Droid. Hasbro went even further back in their catalogue for this figure and dug out 1999’s Episode I Destroyer Droid figure, slightly repainted it and threw it into the mix.
The surprise figure in the set is Jango Fett. Hasbro has been good sometimes for throwing in at least one kit-bashed figure in the Battle Packs sets. This time Jango Fett gets this treatment. Using the head of 2002’s POTJ Jango Fett Sneak Preview figure and the body of 2002’s SW [S - P1] Jango Fett (Slave I Pilot) (’02 #47), we now have a “new” version of Jango Fett which seems it will remain exclusive to this set. The 2002 Star Wars “Saga” figure came without a helmet, so that’s why Hasbro needed to find a new head to stick on the body. The figure has cool posture and a nice tame action stance which is very reminiscent to the scene of the film on which this Battle Packs set is based. The Droid Factory Capture set again may look the best in the package, but it’s a good set if you’re looking for a quick release of figure based on this scene. There will be better figures in the future, but there is something remarkably likeable with this Battle Packs set.
