Kit Fisto - TCW [R] - Basic (CW05)

This Jedi Master belongs to the amphibious Nautolan species that can live comfortably in air or water. He has mastered difficult Jedi techniques that manipulate the movement of water for combat purposes. To aid him further in battle, he sometimes uses an underwater propulsion backpack.

The first The Clone Wars incarnation of Kit Fisto was really a nice sculpt as far as the accuracy of the character was concerned, but it really lacked in articulation. Because this Kit Fisto action figure was released in significantly lower quantities, thanks to “last wave syndrome," Hasbro felt that he would make a perfect addition to the first wave of The Clone Wars [Red] line look, which now makes this Kit Fisto action figure released consecutively in two waves; back to back no less. We’ve always been very partial to this Nautolan and do not hesitate to purchase any collectible that any Star Wars licensee makes of him. For us there is something quite special about this Jedi Master and we’re thankful he gets so much attention in Hasbro’s basic figure line. Although blessed with a great sculpt, Kit Fisto severely lacks in articulation. If you can let this go, you’ll also find that he has been given a wonderful paint job with a focus on natural earth tones, layering, and detail. And he also comes with plenty of accessories. These include a large jet backpack, two firing missiles, and a lightsaber. Most of the Jedi in this animated collection have unique insignias placed on different parts of their uniforms (most notably the gloves/gauntlets or shoulder armor.

Most of us are aware that Kit Fisto’s appearance was dramatically altered from Episode II to Episode III. Interestingly, it seems that Hasbro has returned to the original Episode II face design as the starting place to caricaturize him into the animated style. Yes, pretty much all of the animated characters are unique in their appearance from the live action counterparts, but Kit’s appearance seems to have roots from Attack Of The Clones. The color of Kit’s head is cast in a strong olive green and there is a darker forest green wash that sticks in the crevices on his face which add additional depth of detail and character. This darker green is also used to capture the pattern on his head tresses. This was more or less him color scheme from Episode II. We can’t help but notice the similarities. As explained earlier, Kit Fisto is stuck in a rather static pose and it nearly renders properly displaying him in action poses nearly useless. He still has plenty of movement in the arms and we think this more than makes up for the lack of articulation in other areas. But you’ll find you’re going to be severely limited with what Hasbro gave us this time around. Some may be able to overlook the lack of lower body movement, but when you’re not able to pose a Jedi in some cool action poses, we think it’s ultimately a letdown.

Overall, Kit Fisto is a nice-looking action figure to add into your collection. You may even find him to be a pleasure. Despite his issues, he just looks so much better than he functions, and there is some merit in that. In The Clone Wars [Blue] phase of the line, the fifth wave seemingly made its way out in decent numbers, but only in certain areas. In fact, MANY collectors reported not ever finding that wave at retail. Chalk that up again to “last wave syndrome." Thankfully, Hasbro has been smart and released three of those “wave 5” figures into The Clone Wars [Red] line in wave 1. Now is your chance to scoop up these figures and make them part of your collection. The Clone Wars line of figures honestly keeps getting better with time and Hasbro is smart because they're making products that are steadily interesting for the kid and collector markets. For the most part, figures from The Clone Wars line have to be new sculpts (not including the carry-forward figures) and this means Hasbro has no other choice than to put their best foot forward. The result? They’re honestly creating small masterpieces like Kit Fisto. Better sculpts will undoubtedly be coming along, and Hasbro may revisit characters they’ve already produced just like they did in the realistic line. But we really hope they focus on never before tried characters first.
