Clone Trooper/Anakin Skywalker/R2-D2 - TCW [B] - Commemorative DVD Collection

Every time there is a DVD release of the latest Star Wars Entertainment, Hasbro releases a Commemorative DVD Collection multipack in support of it. One of the latest releases is the Clone Trooper/Anakin Skywalker/R2-D2 Commemorative DVD Collection, one of two sets created to support the release of The Clone Wars film on DVD. The set is not noteworthy in any way. Hasbro decided that straight repacks was the best option for this Walmart exclusive, so if you own the basic figure released of the three figures inside of the three-pack, there is no reason to purchase this one too, unless you’re into the exclusive packaging of them. Some figures have fewer accessories than their original basic figure counterparts. But you will pay a lower cost-per-figure if you decide to choose the multipack. Or, if you’re looking to army build Clone Troopers and Battle Droids, this is another great way to do so. Let’s take a closer look at the figures that make up the Clone Trooper/Anakin Skywalker/R2-D2 Commemorative DVD Collection. One way or another you’re going to conclude whether you need these sets or not.

The Clone Trooper is an essential action figure. If we’re honest, they’re the “main characters” of The Clone Wars television show. It’s wise that Hasbro repacked the figure in this multipack. They decided to utilize the “dirty” version of the figure here. The action figure that comes loaded with 25 points of articulation and comes with the standard DC-15 blaster, canon, and projectile. We’re happy that we have another chance with the “dirty” version of the Clone Trooper. They’re more authentic to the source than the all-white Clone Troopers are. Anakin Skywalker is also part of this set. The figure is beautifully sculpted and looks very much like the character from the television series. Still, there are a few things (in our opinion) that could make him better than he is. Anakin Skywalker has a limited ten points of articulation, and the figure could have benefitted from super-articulation. And we think our opinion is a fair representation of the voice of the fans too. Anakin Skywalker one figure that comes with fewer accessories this time around. The cable is missing from this release, But Hasbro gave the figure a great paint job, and the details look fantastic.

R2-D2 has action features that Hasbro cleverly worked into a natural aesthetic of the character and the action figure excels at every level. The bells and whistles on this figure function more like a natural extension of the character, rather than silly action features. The front panels on his body open up to reveal two extension arms housed within his frame. Additionally, there is a back panel that opens up and has a grappling hook and rope (with significant length may we add). This cable possesses the capability to be wound and unwound by which way you decide to turn the figure's head. Everything fits well inside the figure's interior, and all panels can close at once without looking as if something is trying to poke through and it is such a fantastic bonus feature. R2-D2 looks great and exactly as he does in The Clone Wars television show and feature film. The blues are beautiful, and he has an amazing finishing wash which captures some of the dirt and damage he sustained during his many adventures in space. This plucky astromech droid is another welcomed repack here. We would have loved to see new or revised figures here, but the set will be good for new fans.
