Review: Darth Vader (Ver. 2.0) - Real Action Heroes

Posted by Paul | January 31, 2015 at 01:15 AM ET |

Medicom Toy wasn't completely happy with their first take on the Darth Vader Real Action Heroes figure based on the character's appearance from Return Of The Jedi. So they started again and produced the stunning Darth Vader (Ver. 2.0) Real Action Heroes figure a few years later. It comes with a light-up lightsaber and other electronics. You're going to love it. Review: Ishi Tib - POTF2 [G/FF] - Basic

Posted by Paul | January 29, 2015 at 01:35 AM ET |

In 1998 we definitely all wanted an Ishi Tib action figure, but not this particular Ishi Tib. But this is still a great Ishi Tib until we get the Ishi Tib we originally wanted. Are you confused yet? It's sad that the second collector-friendly attempt of Princess Leia Organa (In Ewok Celebration Outfit) would just not deliver. A key outfit for her in Episode VI, collectors wanted the best out of this figure but likeness, scale issues and the inability to stand unaided were just the beginnings of her problems. Rumors abound that a new one is coming in The Black Series this year, but until it's officially announced we have to assume that this is one of three options we have for this figure today. Learn more in our Research Droids Reviews today. Be sure to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. We also received an image via Colin H. from Facebook user BillyB. showing a production Han Solo (Stormtrooper Disguise). While it's not the best photo (size wise) it does show pretty clearly that the helmet looks pretty remarkable (as in no skewed appearance). We aksed for more photos and will post them if they come to us.

We feel that there is a still a big ball of confusion out there surrounding The Black Series 3.75" price hike. Weeks ago, Yakface.com broke the exclusive news (although it appears some people think this "old" news just broke a few days ago) that this was happening and then lengthy discussions with readers at both JTA and Yakface.com added their own opinions to the matter (300+ comments in our article alone). It seems however that there are things not being relayed by [important people] that you should know. Click through for an article sure to create controversy.

Review: Bespin Luke Skywalker - POTF2 [G/FF] - Basic

Posted by Paul | January 27, 2015 at 01:10 AM ET |

Would you believe it took Hasbro three (3) years to produce a modern Luke Skywalker (Bespin Fatigues) figure? They called him Bespin Luke Skywalker and released him in the Freeze Frame phase of The Power Of The Force "2" line. See this figure in our Research Droids Reviews today. Be sure to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Bespin Luke Skywalker

Site JediBusiness.com is reporting that one of their readers found the Amazon.com exclusive Slave I (originally priced at $99.99 then $69.99) at Toys R Us Express mall stores for a ridiculous $34.49. Let us know if you find these locally. Could this be the future home of all those TVC greatest hits waves? (We kid....)

Disney Store Puts Rebels Vehicles On Clearance

Posted by Paul | January 26, 2015 at 07:37 PM ET |

JTA reader and friend Ben C. send us an image that filled us with a little bit of dread. His local Disney store had the Rebels vehicles on clearance for $12.99 each. Keep in mind that this is a Disney Store (the people behind this Star Wars property). It is true that retail discounts items based on their sell through, but come on now. Maybe Rebels just doesn't have the mojo it needs to support itself? If that's true, then it's a shame, because the show gets increasingly better with each new episode. But how does this bode for future vehicle assortments? (We gave up on the Rebels Saga Legends. We'll never see those again....) We haven't even been through ONE complete season of the show and now the Disney Store puts toys from this show on clearance? Click the thumbnail below for the proof.

Here is a figure from 1999 that looks almost as good today as it did when it was first released. Check out the gorgeous Pote Snitkin figure. Hopefully you already have him because Hasbro will NEVER revisit this character again in 3.75" action figure form. But they really don't need to do that. More Rebelsgate Developments?

Posted by Paul | January 22, 2015 at 08:47 AM ET |

More Rebelsgate drama? Well, don't get your knickers in a twist just yet, but our friends at BanthaSkull.com have more ominous news to report. Keep in mind, this is one incident, but it's definitely noteworthy and will make you think twice before thinking that you have your "future" Rebels figures purchases "in the bag" already. With still next to ZERO online stores and brick and mortar having in stock Rebels Saga Legends figures, we wonder whow long it is going to be until they're everywhere.... if that even happens at this point.

Worst Star Wars Store Reset Ever?

Posted by Paul | January 19, 2015 at 07:57 PM ET |

This isn't a game of "Where's Waldo?" You don't even have to find the hidden toaster in a tree. No matter who is to actually be blamed for the abysmal state at Star Wars at brick and mortar now, there is no denying how the fun is just completely sucked out of the hobby, especially for those who love to hunt for their items.

A Closer Look At TBS6 Bossk And How It Has Or Has Not Changed

Posted by Paul | January 17, 2015 at 03:52 PM ET |

JTA reader Mike R. takes some time to compare the prototype Bossk to the production image that has recently surfaced on eBay. It goes without saying it is much too early to begin to worry about this figure. And it even looks like a few things has been bettered on him, but click through to read Mike's points. In fact, believe it or not, the eBay sample has better paint operations than the prototype. (For the record, the prototype never grabbed me. I think there are improvements to the figure in all honesty.) Click through for more.

Heck No! Not Even At 70% Off!

Posted by Paul | January 17, 2015 at 01:49 PM ET |

The contrarians were wrong. Go figure! I guess the gift-giving budget conscious buyers totally missed the huge Hero Series X-wing fighters falling off of the shelves of my local TARGET stores. Surely they entered TARGET for the sole reason of looking for GIGANTIC budget Star Wars items that their children don't want or friends of their children don't want for birthday gifts. So I wonder why these didn't sell. Hmm. Anyway, these hideous things have been marked down 70% for three days now and two of my locals stores are STILL swimming in them. It looks like 90% will be required for some to bite. I still don't know who would want this thing though. The decals are falling off and the vehicle has one mode: sucky.

Wow! A TARGET Reset Surely Means New Product, Doesn't It?

Posted by Paul | January 17, 2015 at 01:30 PM ET |

If you wonder why we say here at JTA that we would like to see it made illegal for Big Box to sell Star Wars, you really don't have to look that much further than reset season. Retail depends upon product and if product doesn't make it to the store for any reason (Hasbro's fault or not), the shelves look like this ridiculousness for sometimes months on end. Retail is about presentation and anal-retentive space designation. You think that they would just want to "sell" what comes into their stores. But if the layout isn't right, management falls to pieces and they've even been known to hold stuff "in the back" until the layout is just right. (We know no product is currently being held in the back at the moment.) It's sad that this particular TARGET has no clue that they will be waiting a long time for basic figures as well as anything collectors want in general. And let's not forget about that ridiculous price increase. I myself saw Yoda and Darth Vader for $12.99 today. These two figures will probably block the next three cases from arriving. Oh wait, TARGET doesn't get cases anymore. What a complete disaster! So why do people want storeslike TARGET to carry Star Wars collector stuff? Go online! Go!

Review: Hoth Chewbacca - POTF2 [FB/CT] - Basic

Posted by Paul | January 16, 2015 at 07:37 AM ET |

We suppose Hasbro called this figure Hoth Chewbacca because "Chewbacca (Hoth Terrain Investigation)" was too long and "Chewbacca (Hoth Outfit)" makes absolutely no sense. UPDATE: TBS6 Bossk And Han Stormtrooper Samples Hit eBay!

Posted by Paul | January 14, 2015 at 09:21 PM ET |

eBay seller viperskingdom has samples of The Black Series 6" Bossk and Han Solo (Stormtrooper Disguise) figures. Oh man, let the controversy begin! Han's helmet is laughable. Let's just hope this is a major factory reject. But check them out and let us know what you think. Thank you to our friends at Yakface.com and the Wolfpack Podcast for the heads up on this! I personally don't think that this means we will see them right away, but there are certainly varying opinions. We have just received proof that C-3PO has been added to these figures' case assortment, so we don't know what to make of this just yet. Anything is possible for certain!

UPDATE: With special thanks to Jayson Krebsbach for confirming, Bossk now comes WITHOUT jaw articulation

When we posted our latest The Black Series upcoming figure assortments, readers began immediately asking about the TBS Deluxe line. Well, JTA sponsor BBTS has just sent out an email which explains that Han Solo and Tauntaun will be packed with the Scout Trooper & Speeder Bike carry-forward set. It looks like Luke & Wampa may either (A) be relegated to a different assortment or (B) postponed. More to come as we follow this story.

Is This What "Not Delayed" Looks Like? Where Are The Rebels Figures?

Posted by Paul | January 14, 2015 at 01:11 PM ET |

How are ya'all making out finding all of those confirmed released Rebels figures? It's still drier than a desert in my area and from what we're hearing from our readers it's about the same for them. (We are strictly talking USA here because internationally these figures have been relatively easy to secure....) One thing is for sure. It couldn't be any worse for a toy line to have concurrent media support and not have any figures in stores to buy. Will these figures finally arrive way too late after the fact? With more and more online shops pushing out their availability dates from April/May 2015 to "temporarily out of stock" for wave 1 and new waves showing a laughable January 2015 estimated release date, we wonder if the whole world has gone mad. Anyway, let us know what you're seeing in your areas.

Price Hikes Have You Down? Patience and Amazon Might Be The Answer

Posted by Chuck | January 12, 2015 at 11:39 AM ET |

With the price hike in many areas on The Black Series figures, keep an eye on Amazon.com where quite the opposite seems to be happening. Many of The Black Series figures are dropping so low in price they are marked as add on items! Most figures are less than the original retail price of $9.99, and many much lower including Yoda ($4.44), Toryn Farr ($2.54), and Biggs Darklighter ($2.56) to name a few. So, if you don't mind waiting and are budget conscious this may be your only hope!

Rebels Saga Legends Wave 2 Hits Singapore

Posted by Paul | January 10, 2015 at 01:14 PM ET |

We recently reported last month that Mission Series wave 2 has shown up in the Philippines. Now our friends at Yakface.com have confirmation that wave 2 of Rebels Saga Legends has hit Singapore. We guess this means the USA will see them in September. (We only kid. Relax.) But seriously, we have no idea what this means for the USA. All of these figures should have been out months ago in the USA.

If Your Local TRU Has These They Are About Half Price Now....

Posted by Paul | January 10, 2015 at 12:56 PM ET |

I was very surprised when I turned the corner to the Star Wars aisle at my local TRU. Don't worry, not a drop of Rebels basic figures (Lord knows when we will see them again....), but what I found was more interesting anyway. I thought these were long gone. They seemingly arrived, warmed the shelves and then instantly disappeared with very little fanfare. I thought for sure I would never see them again, let alone at almost half their normal retail price. Click the thumbnail below for a larger image of what was found. If your store still has these, please know they rang up for $23.98 at my local store.

But What If They Were In The Vintage Collection?

Posted by Paul | January 09, 2015 at 07:47 AM ET |

Within moments of posting the Price Hike article, readers at both JTA and Yakface.com began providing confirmations (as well as photos) that the price hike of The Black Series is indeed true and already in progress. Hasbro will tell you that retail sets the prices, but let's be honest. It is THEIR wholesale price that dictates the suggested retail price that gets passed down to us. Anyway, this topic has brewed debate in both camps. Some have posted they're willing to pay up to $15 for a well-painted and well-accessorized action figure (that is an all-new sculpt). Others say they have already been priced out of the market and can only get figures when they become cheap on Amazon.com (and other sites). I have to concede to one thing. Right now, the paint operations on 99% of the TBS and TBS6 figures released to date are NOT worth $12.99/19.99 respectively. Hopefully paint operations will completely turn around by the time Spring 2015 rolls around when these figures get released. But that remains to be seen. What we want to ask you is would the price hike be "less" of a big deal if all of these figure were released in The Vintage Collection packaging? As a loose collector, it's about the only thing that would make me swallow $12.99 for a 3.75" basic figure more easily. How about you?

Review: Han Solo - POTF2 [FB/CT] - Basic

Posted by Paul | January 08, 2015 at 09:17 AM ET |

Oh man. If we knew how many times this figure was going to be released, perhaps we all would have waited until 2012 to buy him (when he made his last appearance in the basic figure line). But check out the "awesome at the time" Han Solo action figure from the CommTech series. It's the subject of our Research Droids Reviews today. Be sure to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! We have confirmed information on the next couple waves of The Black Series 3.75" and 6" lines. Based on this information, we have a series of questions for follow-up, so more information should be forthcoming shortly. We'll explain, just click through to see what is coming and when.

UPDATE: We were correct in our assessment. Bossk and Han Solo (Stormtrooper Disguise) are considered the final wave of 2014. So Bossk and Han Solo (Stormtrooper Disguise) will be released before the 2015 wave assortments we listed in this article. This means that Han Solo (Stormtrooper Disguise) is actually a "carry-forward" figure. We have updated the list. We still would feel better if we had confirmation from Hasbro on this, but all the signs point to this quite clearly.

Review: Luke Skywalker - POTF2 [FB/CT] - Basic

Posted by Paul | January 07, 2015 at 08:11 AM ET |

As someone wise (who we highly respected before he reveled in the demise of super-articulation) once said, "the sum of an action figure's parts" can be a huge factor when deciding to purchase a Star Wars action figure. This certainly applies to Luke Skywalker. The T-16 model and the carbon scoring scraper are accessories we will NEVER get again and you need them. See more in our Research Droids Reviews today. Disney Store Talking Yoda Revealed!

Posted by Paul | January 05, 2015 at 04:59 PM ET |

With special thanks to JTA reader Jason S. for the alert, DisneyStores.com has listed (what appears to be in-stock at the time of this post) a Yoda Talking Star Wars figure based on his Episode II/Episode III appearance. It wasn't known what other figures would be part of this line, but apparently it's Yoda. It's a shame that Disney went with a PT take on Yoda because they were doing so well focusing on the Original Trilogy, but this figure still looks great.

Star Wars Mashers

Posted by Paul | January 05, 2015 at 09:51 AM ET |

Holy cow. Back on October 8th during the NYCC Preview Party, we bumped into a "source", a fan of JTA from a HUGE company, who dropped us a hint that "Star Wars Mashups" would be announced during the event. We posted the news right away on our Facebook page. The announcement didn't transpire and since Hasbro didn't talk about that at all, we let the rumor go. But now Star Wars Mashers appear on Rebelscum.com's list. Perhaps we should seek out that source once again for more information....

Well here is a story that you're just not going to believe. We have asked some follow-up questions and reached out to others for more information, but in the meantime you MUST reader what JTA reader Seth from NJ has come across at the Meadowlands fleamarket in New Jersey. This one random guy with "lots of junk" to sell may make your blood boil. Or it may explain where all the Rebels Saga Legends figures went. Click through for more....

Walgreens has just employed a new way of preventing theft of The Black Series 6" line, although we don't see how this is ultimately beneficial for saving shelf space since they only devote a skinny row for them at the moment as it is now. Then again, it is likely that only one of these will be on the shelf. Confused? Then click through for JTA reader Jim's report on this. It's pretty sad that poor people (morally and ethically or those who choose to not work – NOT those who work hard and have limited means and resources, Lord know I have limited resources too – I had to clarify this to some folks out there – but apologies to those that misunderstood and have been upset by those word choices) are once again trying to collect by any means possible that it is has forced Walgreens to act in this manner. If you can't afford them, don't collect them people. You're just part of the problem that this hobby is dying. It's not rocket science. We really wonder how long this new anti-theft method will be utilized, because it LOOKS ridiculous! We also wonder how soon it will be before Walgreens tired of protecting Star Wars figures especially since a lot of stores barely carry stock of them. Click the thumbnail below to see a better picture of what we mean.

(SOME) Retail Locations Pull Saga Legends From Star Wars Section

Posted by Paul | January 03, 2015 at 03:19 PM ET |

It's fact. It's not a rumor. But let us be clear: WE WON'T dare to presume what it means or how long it will plague the stores we are talking about here. We DON'T KNOW how widespread it is or if it affects all stores. You will have to be the ones to give us more of an idea about what is out there. However, JTA has witnessed multiple retail locations like TARGET and Walmart (in both Kentucky and Pennsylvania). We even have received multiple emails from readers asking us about this from other states as well (as evidenced in our Q and A of the Day today). These stores that we're talking about have removed the Saga Legends SKU from their mods/plan-o-grams completely. There isn't an ounce of space for Saga Legends figures (at the moment). But Hasbro said they shipped so we shouldn't pay attention to this, right? After all, our friends at Rebelscum.com said Hasbro said they shipped! But what do you make out of this news?

Q and A of the Day: Day 76

Posted by Paul | January 03, 2015 at 03:08 PM ET |

Welcome to our next Q and A of the Day post! This column will be published daily, weekly, monthly, or just based on how many questions I get emailed – but no more than one a day. Feel free to send in your questions and I will put them in the queue. Click through for Q and A of the Day: Day 76. Topic: What in the world in going on with the Rebels Saga Legends line? Stores are removing them from their mods!

Sideshow Announces Ralph McQuarrie Artist Series Stormtrooper Statue

Posted by Chuck | January 02, 2015 at 10:01 AM ET |

We were hoping for sixth scale figures, but you can check out their full preview right here for the Stormtrooper from their Ralph McQuarrie Artist Series as they continue their 12 Days of Sideshow...
