Review: Battle Rancor With Felucian Rider - TAC

Posted by Paul | February 28, 2010 at 01:01 AM ET |

The first two rancor toys from the modern line were a decade apart from each other, but this was apparently for good reason. Hasbro obviously needed the time to ensure collectors that they would deliver an amazing sculpt with lots of articulation and unparalleled authenticity thanks to the wonders of modern technology. Research Droids Reviews looks at the TARGET Exclusive Battle Rancor based on The Force Unleashed multimedia event and realizes that it is still one of the best exclusives ever brought to us by Hasbro. Review: Super Battle Droid - TCW - No. 12

Posted by Paul | February 27, 2010 at 03:20 AM ET |

The first few waves of The Clone Wars figures gave us animated versions of characters that we became familiar with in the movies first. Research Droids Reviews takes a look at the Super Battle Droid today, but this is one figure that is almost unrecognizable when compared to its movie counterpart. Sponsor Announcement: Brian's Toys

Posted by Chuck | February 26, 2010 at 08:58 PM ET |

General, the new Clone Wars action figures are standing by.  The new 2010 Clone Wars Wave 3 Magna Guard, Firefighter Droid, Captain Rex and Obi-Wan (Cold Gear) are ready for pre-order along with new Expanded Universe Comic Packs!

I'm sure many can agree that Sideshow makes some great 12" figures and occasionally a neat diorama or two.  But it can be argued that the Snake Eyes vs. Red Ninja is their best effort yet.  When swinging cardboard tubes and climbing trees in the backyard aren't getting it done anymore, this diorama will satisfy your fantasy. Place your pre-order now!

More newsletter highlights that rock: New MOTU Classic Skeletor and Beast Man Re-Issues, Asajj and Anakin FX Lightsabers, and 12-BK Luke AFA.

Variation Discovered On Yoda (TCW No. 3)

Posted by Paul | February 26, 2010 at 05:57 PM ET |

We're almost "years" late in pointing this out and some of you may already know about this but it was news to us. After we added the 2008 The Clone Wars Yoda (No. 3) figure to our Research Droids Reviews, we noticed when comparing our photographed sample versus the version in our Visual Guide that the figures have different colored irises. The VG version has light green eyes while the RDR version has eyes nearly the same color as his skin. Does anyone out there have more information about this? Is it old news? Please let us know! Click the thumbnail below for a side by side comparison.

Vintage 12-inch Figures Family Picture

Posted by Chuck | February 26, 2010 at 09:03 AM ET |

If you are a collector of the Sideshow 12" figures, then you no doubt know the beginnings of the StarWars 12" line. This unique and highly collectible "little" set of figures seems easily attainable, but yet they are quite pricey and hard to find complete. Click below for a look at a good auction that will get you started! 11 out of the 12 original are up for sale (just IG-88 missing). Although not all complete they will no doubt get you off to a good start! They might not compare anywhere in the ball park to todays highly detailed replicas, but just having a look at them all gathered together makes these a great compliment to todays beauties!

Review: Battle Droid - TCW - Basic (No. 7)

Posted by Paul | February 26, 2010 at 02:45 AM ET |

The first wave of The Clone Wars line was very simple, but included a nice group of core characters. The Battle Droid was one of these figures and it has since seen multiple subsequent repaints since its release in July 2008. Research Droids Reviews takes a look at this Separatist droid and talks about its hits and misses. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Review: Yoda - TCW - No. 3

Posted by Paul | February 25, 2010 at 10:50 AM ET |

Yoda was a figure that all of us couldn't wait to see in the new The Clone Wars line in July 2008. But he didn't turn out as we had hoped. Commander Bly - Blithe Is How He Makes You Feel!

Posted by Paul | February 24, 2010 at 10:26 AM ET |

Maybe it's just because we like raving about cool figures in our Research Droids Reviews or maybe it's just because we are raving lunatics, but the staff at JTA are totally digging the new Commander Bly figure from The Clone Wars line. If you haven't checked out our thoughts on this simple yet awesome action figure, do yourselves a favor and at least check out the gallery. We only hope the next realistic movie-based version of him comes out so well!

Review: Y-wing Bomber - TCW - Vehicles

Posted by Paul | February 23, 2010 at 02:20 AM ET |

Review: Desert Skiff With Anakin Skywalker - Deluxe

Posted by Paul | February 22, 2010 at 03:10 AM ET |

Let's be honest. Did any of us ever think Hasbro would reach back more than a decade into their tooling archives and pull out a POTF2 miniature vehicle and try to reinvent it? Well they did and it turned out better than expected. Research Droids Reviews takes a look a the rereleased Desert Skiff (formerly Desert Sport Skiff) and a new enough Anakin Skywalker figure. Review: Commander Bly - TCW - CW39

Posted by Paul | February 21, 2010 at 01:05 AM ET |

The newly released The Clone Wars Commander Bly action figure has exceeded our expectations. Yes he is another clone trooper and yes he is relatively clean for a soldier, but he shines and is one of our favorite figures in The Clone Wars line thus far. Research Droids Reviews raves uncontrollably about him and we recommened checking out our thoughts and a great photo gallery if you need some prompting to pick him up! He is a big surprise figure for us and we believe you will love him too! Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! New Perspective For The Super Deluxe BAT-AT!

Posted by Paul | February 20, 2010 at 06:18 PM ET |

You have already seen our side by side mock-up comparison of the upcoming BAT-AT next to the 2006 TSC Endor AT-AT. We heard some rumbles from skeptics (as is true with anything Star Wars related) so we wanted to show you another perspective in a different light to help prove the massiveness of this new beast of a vehicle. If this doesn't convince you of how much larger the new BAT-AT is, then nothing will. We stood up one of the pack-in figures to the 2006 TSC Endor AT-AT in the cockpit. Below it is a picture of multiple figures in the new BAT-AT cockpit. Need anyone say anything more? We don't think so. August is just too far away! Click through to check it out!

Sponsor Announcement: Brian's Toys

Posted by Chuck | February 13, 2010 at 01:13 AM ET |

Ralph McQuarrie's concept art is striking and imaginative. eFX worked long and hard to bring the Darth Vader McQuarrie Helmet to life. This helmet is not a fashion statement, it's sweet protective head-wear for when you get burned in a lightsaber duel. Pun intended.

Also, check out the Boba Fett Artist Portfolio by Joe Johnston. The portfolio features 11 images of Johnston our favorite bounty hunter (no offense Dengar) for use in pre-production. Includes a COA and Joe Johnston's signature.

Finally, take a look into our vintage section of the newsletter. Tons of great stuff, particularly the C-3PO & R2-D2 immunization poster. I bet you wish you had it before this entire swine flu fiasco.

More fantastic stuff at Brian's Toys!

ROSS Has Joker Squad Very Cheap!

JTA Recommends Checking Your Local Walmart Stores

Posted by Paul | February 03, 2010 at 09:48 AM ET |

We visited three (3) NJ Walmart stores between yesterday and this morning and it looks like the exclusives are finally being marked down (from being full price up to this point). This is what we found: AT-ST ($27.00), Droid Factory ($13.00), Unleashed Battle Packs ($17.00), and the Blockbuster Value two-packs ($5.00). We are not claiming that this is happening at every store, but we do want to make our East coast readers aware of what is happening in their back yard. (But we do advise all of you to check your local stores because you never really know what is or isn't happening across the board.) Good luck to all!

Walmart - Poor Overstock Management? What The Heck?

Posted by Paul | February 01, 2010 at 02:45 PM ET |

We believe Walmart is losing it (mentally). With shelves still full of exclusive product 50% off, we scanned some of them to see if they dropped further down in price and in a perplexing move (as well as to our own surprise), Walmart is slowly creeping the price back up. For example, the overabundant Octuptarra Droid (read our review HERE) is ringing up for $19.00 (it was $17.50 yesterday) and the Evolutions sets (read our reviews HERE) are now $15.00 (they were $12.48 yesterday). This may vary by area, but you may want to pick them up since the MSRP is heading North instead of South.

Posted by Paul | February 01, 2010 at 03:25 AM ET |

Ever since The Empire Strikes Back, fans have been enamored of medical droids! And it was inevitable that we would see them working on Luke's father at some point in the saga (albeit in a much more intense manner). Research Droids Reviews looks at a character that is not only a nod to the droid we first saw working on Luke, but almost an identical one. You'll have to read our review to find out why the Episode III and Episode V droids puzzle us. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review!
