Sabine Mission Series Wave Hits Philippines - Should Hit USA By Summer?

Posted by Paul | December 30, 2014 at 09:28 AM ET |

Before any forum trolls misquote me again, the word 'summer' in the title is SARCASM. JTA Facebook friend Jaeger Trooper Eityeiteity‎ posts on our wall that the Sabine Mission Series pack has hit the Philippines. We don't know what that means for the USA right now, but keep in mind that this was was due for early December in the USA. It may be February before we see anything because the rest of the first wave hasn't even gotten out yet (Mission Series and Saga Legends). Click the thumbnail below for a full view of this eagerly anticipated set.

Review: Covert Ops Clone Trooper - TAC - Saga Legends (Fans' Choice)

Posted by Paul | December 30, 2014 at 12:50 AM ET |

A nice surprise figure re-release was 2005's ROTS Covert Ops Clone Trooper in the 2008 TAC Saga Legends line. We feel the figure has great distribution, but collectors chose him to be a Fans' Choice winner that year. See the repacked Covert Ops Clone Trooper and his exclusive black coin in our Research Droids Reviews today. It's Like A Kick In The Privates

Posted by Paul | December 29, 2014 at 05:46 PM ET |

Our good friends at Yakface.com have posted what I like to call a "reality check" article. It's a simple idea, but it speaks volumes. They've posted an image of what store shelves look like just five (5) years ago almost to the day. Keep in mind, this is pre-The Vintage Collection, when the collector body was what Hasbro referred to as their smallest. I don't know went wrong at this point (wise scribes say it was the dreadful packaging – others say it was pricing), but this golden era gave us some of the GREATEST Star Wars toys of all time (during 2008-2010). Sad to believe that we will NEVER see anything remotely close to this ever again. Be sure to check out their article and feel feel to leave comments wherever about your memories of this VERY fun time of collecting.

For Kids Or Collectors? Hasbro Must Take Note!

Posted by Paul | December 29, 2014 at 01:48 PM ET |

As someone who possesses not a single strand of interest in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I have to tell you that I have been severely tempted to buy a few of this line's products just for the sheer awesomeness of them. As if the TMNT playset wasn't enough with its multiple levels and oh-so-cool dumpster, I can't deny how unbelievably well-made the figures are too. Then I came to THIS ITEM. I held it in my hands for about 3 minutes until my Star Wars focus took control and said "Paul, put it back." Who is this toy being made for? Kids or adults? Do you think any kid even CARES about the years 1984 or 1988? So I dare anyone to say kids. Of course kids WILL WANT it, but this has been designed with the collector in mind first. The makers of TMNT (Playmates) did this so they can continue to HOLD ONTO the collecting audience they already have. Sure, it's great if the TMNT line picks up new collectors (which it is at a feverish pace), but at least this line knows who has the money and interest first and foremost. And what quality figures these are. Hasbro needs to take note.

Review: Destroyer Droid - POTJ - Mega Action

Posted by Paul | December 29, 2014 at 07:57 AM ET |

A figure from 2000 that is probably good enough to reuse for 2014 (in The Black Series line) is the Power Of The Jedi Mega Action Destroyer Droid. Of course, a few tweaks would make it perfect, but Hasbro really had something right going on with this figure. And we hope that it will see a tweaked re-release one day. Is There Room Yet To Start Growing Concerned?

Posted by Paul | December 22, 2014 at 05:09 PM ET |

Our friends at SWActionNews have posted a story on their blog called the Venganza Media Gazette that Hasbro is producing a 2.5" scaled line for the Avengers film. Also, when Marvelicious Toys, their sister site, pressed Hasbro for any new details on 3.75" line, they essentially got "no comment". With this newly leaked information that shows that this new smaller scale is what this line will be and with no signs (YET) that 3.75" will be produced for the Avengers film (at this moment), how does this make you feel about how the Star Wars line may be approached with The Force Awakens? While we're all eager to jump the gun and panic, let us know in the comments how you feel about this. It is interesting that NO 3.75" TFA leaks showed up. You have to feel for Avengers collectors. We think simple 5POA is bad. Imagine getting 2.5" next. Yikes! Please don't cross-pollinate that scale to Star Wars, Hasbro! Please!

Battle Of Endor Permanently Price-Changed To $79.99?

Posted by Paul | December 21, 2014 at 04:54 PM ET |

We are pretty sure that the Battle Of Endor Toys R us exclusive multipack has been permanently price-changed to $79.99 (which is still way too much money to plop down on this thing if you already have all of the contents inside of it already). But if you have been eyeing this thing, then this may be more palatable for you. On a side note, as you can see from the image, not much has changed on this shelf since the summer time!

UPDATE: Walgreens.com Cancels Remaining Unfilled Proto Fett Orders?

Posted by Paul | December 19, 2014 at 09:07 AM ET |

That's what Facebook page STAR WARS: Anything and Everything is stating. It appears that Walgreens is unable to fill all pre-orders on this toy. What doesn't make sense to us is that if the buyer, who claimed to re-order 40,000 more units, ordered what he said he would, this thing should be more common than Episode I product. So something just isn't right here.

UPDATE: It looks like two separate things are happening here. Click through for more.

Review: Obi-Wan Kenobi - POTJ - Mega Action

Posted by Paul | December 19, 2014 at 12:55 AM ET |

Did you know that The Black Series wasn't the first 6" line from Hasbro? It actually was planned as early as the Episode I line. But plans were shelved and it eventually was released under the Power Of The Jedi line as Mega Action figures. Now we look at the Obi-Wan Kenobi figure next. See the 6" roots to our current 6" line in our Research Droids Reviews today. TARGET Gives Up On Hero Series X-wing Fighter Before Christmas

Posted by Paul | December 15, 2014 at 11:23 AM ET |

JTA reader Jeff T. gleefully sends us proof that TARGET has given up on the Hero Series X-wing Fighter, which although Hasbro states is a standalone item, looks like the perfect vehicle for the "shampoo bottles". Come on gift-giving parents and children not interested in Star Wars yet. Why aren't you supporting this items? It's cheap, affordable and will fit your budgetary needs! All ye enlightened ones who claim to "understand" why Hasbro has gone the cheap route, why have you not supported this thing either? For your information, my TARGET locations are SWIMMING in these things. They're stacked up like freight in a warehouse. If this keeps up, retail won't even take a chance on the new Episode 7 Star Wars stuff. Why should they when they've been given all of these bridges to sell? Click the thumbnails below for larger images.

Walmart Exclusive Rebels Millennium Falcon Rollback Down To $29.97!

Posted by Paul | December 13, 2014 at 10:33 PM ET |

JTA reader Mike C. eagerly writes in to let other JTA readers know that Walmart has the simplified BMF (the Rebels Millennium Falcon) for a low $29.97 down from $77 (a savings of $47.03). You can pick it up at a store and not pay shipping charges either. At this price, it's honestly a bit hard to not consider it. It also makes us wonder just how well this new "cheap route" is working out for retailers too.

Gentle Giant Ltd. Briefly Shows Unannounced Items In YouTube Video

Posted by Paul | December 13, 2014 at 04:00 PM ET |

Gentle Giant Ltd. posted a video on YouTube back on December 4th that sadly went unnoticed. But if you check it out and look carefully, you'll see new things that have yet to be officially announced. We also couldn't help but notice what looks to be a (GASP!) 6" vintage Kenner Boba Fett "mid-size" figure. Hopefully that's just a scaled version for better referencing or something else, but that looks oddly finished in our minds. Could it be that Gentle Giant Ltd. will be starting an all-new vintage Kenner scaled line? Anyway, even if that's not the case, definitely check out the video!

Hasbro Changes Shape Of J Hook On Rebels Figures

Posted by Paul | December 11, 2014 at 10:31 AM ET |

We honestly can't be bothered with packaging variation nonsense (as well as date stamps) generally speaking, but here is one of perhaps a little more interest. JTA reader Matthew sends us an image that Hasbro has changed the J hook of the Rebels figures. We don't care at all, but some of you who keep figures in the package may care. Review: Obi-Wan Kenobi - R - Saga Legends (SL11)

Posted by Paul | December 11, 2014 at 08:01 AM ET |

He is both SL13 and SL11 in different lines in the same year of 2014. Oh, and he is the same figure too. Are you confused yet, because we are! The unnecessarily re-released Obi-Wan Kenobi figure, now in the Rebels line look, looks just as bad at the end of 2014 as he did in the beginning of 2014. Review: TIE Pilot - TBS [P2] - Six Inch Figures (#05)

Posted by Paul | December 07, 2014 at 01:05 AM ET |

Well, the TIE Pilot is another pleasant surprise in The Black Series 6" line. It's a very generic interpretation of the character, but we found very little fault with it. See why you need one too in our Research Droids Reviews today. Be sure to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Review: Clone Trooper Sergeant - TBS [P2] - Six Inch Figures (#07)

Posted by Paul | December 06, 2014 at 05:13 PM ET |

We expected to blow off the Clone Trooper Sergeant as another annoying repaint, but it has impressed us very much. Not only has Hasbro taken obvious strides to clean up the placement of color flashes, they've also cast the figure in an off-white plastic which has done wonders to how realistic this figure appears. Now we want all of the officers. See why we're surprisingly giddy about this release in our Research Droids Reviews today. Be sure to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! But They're For The Gift Giving Adults And The Kids!

Posted by Paul | December 06, 2014 at 12:00 PM ET |

We're almost into the second week of December and my local TARGET has received 1 new Star Wars: Rebels figure (Jango Fett), 4 TBS [P2] Yoda (3.75") figures and is STILL swimming in TBS 6" Princess Leia (Slave Outfit) and Greedo figures. They're also trying to still sell these puppies from January 2013 (see thumbnail below). Why is Hasbro still making these? Oh, I know! They're for kids. And kids are going to save the line. As a close friend (and wise scribe) once said "Hasbro keeps chasing the customer they don't have instead of focusing on keeping the ones they do." I wish I could take credit for that line myself, because I honestly couldn't agree more with that sentiment. Maybe by Episode VII stores will get recalibrated and we can't start the madness all over again. (Click the thumbnail to see all I have seen since 2013 at my local TARGET, plus or minus a few exceptions.)

UPDATE: Hasbro Fixes The Black Series Starkiller Deco

Posted by Paul | December 04, 2014 at 12:17 PM ET |

At the Hasbro Preview Party in October, JTA showed Hasbro THIS IMAGE (in addition to the Malgus comparison too) in our RDRs as heavy duty proof that paint operations are NOT where they should be in a collectors' line. Looking concerned, Hasbro expressed to us that they agreed and duly noted to look into this. And it looks like they have. JTA reader Shavdran I. sends us proof that The Black Series Starkiller reissue is looking better than ever. his Vulcan "angry eyes" are now gone and he looks VERY MUCH like The Vintage Collection version. Click the thumbnail for a larger image and click through for his story. We would like to think we had something to do with this enhancement, but you never know.... :)

UPDATE: FULL SIZE IMAGES NOW ADDED! Both figures sport a 42161 date stamp which should prove to us all once again that date stamps don't mean a hill of beans anymore like they used to.... This sample came from Malaysia so it may take time before we see them hit the USA.

Amazon has once again lowered the price on the The Vintage Collection Boba Fett (Prototype Armor) mail-away figure. This time it's $24.99. Not as sweet as the Daily Deal they had back in October ($19.99), but if you missed out it's still not too bad.

TBS Princess Leia (Ewok Gown) Figure Is Supposed To Be Revealed Soon!

Posted by Paul | December 01, 2014 at 10:06 PM ET |

Don't forget that December 4th, 5th and 6th, Brazil Comic Con takes place in Sao Paulo. If you recall, Hasbro exclusively let it slip to Jedi Temple Archives that a new Princess Leia figure is going to be shown at this pop culture event. (It was by process of elimination as well as an indirect confirmation that JTA determined it would be this version of our favorite princess.) We will be scouring the internet for coverage on this event this weekend, but if you see a picture of this new figure before we do, please send us the news! Who is excited for a new Princess Leia (Ewok Gown) figure in The Black Series 3.75" line? We are!
