Review: Elite TIE Interceptor - TAC - Toys R Us Exclusive

Posted by Paul | June 30, 2014 at 08:21 AM ET |

We finish up our June pot luck with an exclusive from the 30 (77-07) line. The Elite TIE Interceptor was quite unexpected, but welcomed nonetheless. And it came with a shockingly cool 181st Squadron TIE Pilot. See all the details in our Research Droids Reviews today. Thinking Outside Of The [Big] Box: A Few Ideas To Save Our Hobby

Posted by Paul | June 29, 2014 at 08:42 PM ET |

The disappointment with Hasbro is palpable in the Star Wars collecting community. We have all aired our grievances loudly, but it seems that is all we've been doing since the demise of The Vintage Collection and it all seems to fall upon deaf ears. Between the dreadful paint operations on both kids' and collectors' figures (despite a confirmed instance of Hasbro rep stating that there are no differences between the two), the reduced articulation in the "collector" line and barely any changes in bottle-necked distribution, many of us our scratching our heads on how we arrived at this awful state of affairs after so many wonderful years of a fun and happy hobby. But what if there are solutions out there that we just haven't thought about yet? (more....)

Insidious Darth Sidious eBay Auction

Posted by Paul | June 28, 2014 at 11:37 PM ET |

Check out this ridiculous eBay auction. Unless one is getting a full case of Darth Sidious figures, I don't think the suggested start price is remotely close. Actually, it's so preposterous it it laughable.

We switch gears to look at a few items in Sideshow Collectibles' 1:6 Scale Figure Environments line. First up is the E-Web Heavy Repeating Blaster. Speechless: Quality Is In The Toilet

Posted by Paul | June 27, 2014 at 10:00 AM ET |

It's rare when I link to other reviews. After all, there is way too much competition out there and my opinions are the right ones. (Just kidding folks.) But I have made a much-needed exception today. Our friends at BanthaSkull.com have reviewed The Black Series Luke Skywalker (Dagobah) figure. To say that I am sick to my stomach is an understatement. Beyond the arms, their sample has a protruding and dripping eyeball and the beginnings of male pattern baldness on his head. What in the world has our hobby come to now? Rest in peace Star Wars collecting golden years (1995-2012). Penny wise pound foolish Hasbro is. But hey, they have plenty of contrarians on board holding their hands and I am sure someone will defend these cost saving measures.... too.

Review: Y-wing Fighter - OTC - Toys R Us Exclusive

Posted by Paul | June 27, 2014 at 01:10 AM ET |

It was odd for many collectors when Hasbro packaged Expanded Universe stuff in "vintage inspired" packaging. But that's what they did with The Original Trilogy Collection Y-wing Fighter. It was based on an Action Fleet vehicle. Learn more Research Droids Reviews entry. UPDATE: Walgreens Exclusive Boba Fett? Maybe The Black Series?

Posted by Paul | June 26, 2014 at 06:17 PM ET |

Well here is an interesting tidbit of news. Our friends at SWActionNews.com are reporting that Walgreens has an exclusive Boba Fett figure coming, perhaps from The Black Series line on tap. I will say that details are EXTREMELY murky from what the image of the computer screen shot reveals. It's unclear what exactly it is, but by the price point it seems it could be TBS6. And while it's not unprecedented for Walgreens to get an exclusive action figure, I will be shocked if this is the case with a Star Wars item next. Let's see what comes to light!

UPDATE: I just noticed that the UPC in this screen shot is NOT a Hasbro UPC number. I DO NOT KNOW if that means anything or not, like does Walgreens create their own cataloguing numbers or something else similar. But nedless to say, I am more skeptical of what this could be. But my skepticism shouldn't mean anything either.

Would someone please wake us up from this nightmare? Alright. We decided to turn a leaf and think positively about the Mission Series and Saga Legends figures. So here it goes. They positively suck. And they're getting worse with time. Oh boy are the sparks gonna fly with today's review. Posted by Paul | June 23, 2014 at 09:03 AM ET |

You may notice interesting things about the box art, like the Disney logo and multiple languages. It really looks like they've hollowed out the BMF which just is so wrong on so many levels. Review: Snowtrooper - Premium Format Figure (Stunning!)

Posted by Paul | June 17, 2014 at 12:15 AM ET |

He isn't nearly as accurate as the Hasbro five points of articulation Saga Legends figure, but he is pretty darn close. (WE'RE KIDDING!) The Snowtrooper Premium Format Figure is THE MOST accurate interpretation of the standard infantry Snowtrooper to date. (And do you believe it is only the SECOND piece in this scale sourced to The Empire Strikes Back? Shocking, isn't it? Happy Fathers' Day!

Posted by Paul | June 15, 2014 at 07:48 PM ET |

JTA wishes all of our dads out there a very happy Fathers' Day. With society and media egregiously placing less and less importance on fathers and the impact they have on their children, we want you to know that we salute you in your most important role as a man. Happy Fathers' Day!

Collectors went insane when Hasbro released characters in the 12 Inch Figure line that they DIDN'T release in the 3.75" basic figure line. Although Ewoks (Battle Of Endor) was released in 2003, it wasn't until 2008 during The Legacy Collection that we got the first 3.75" version of Leektar. And we also got the very first 12" version of Logray in this set too. Learn more in our Research Droids Reviews today. Hasbro is clueless, and it's evident that all they care about is the 6" scaled figures line. Many hoped that this set would include the desperately needed 3.75" Ponda Baba, but no. It contains two peg-warmers of 6" The Black Series figures line that NO ONE needs. Site store Andrews Toys has more info. If they included real plastic furniture, then this may be worth considering, but since it's just cardboard, well... pass.

Posted by Paul | June 12, 2014 at 01:15 AM ET |

A New Hope For The Black Series Yoda Figure?

Posted by Paul | June 10, 2014 at 08:51 AM ET |

It looks like Star Wars collectors will have an "option" with The Black Series Yoda now. JTA reader and commenter Shane S. posts a picture in our comments showing that the TBS Yoda head (originally thought to be a swivel head joint) will fit on the TVC Yoda figure thanks to the same ball-socket joint. While not an ideal solution, it's certainly better than our current option. Click through for the proof. (I personally still am gun-shy to claim that the TBS Yoda head is a ball-socket joint. I thought it was swivel. So if anyone can verify/deny that, please post in our comments.)

Posted by Paul | June 10, 2014 at 01:05 AM ET |

Review: Skirmish At Carkoon - SW [S - P3] - Toys R Us Exclusive

Posted by Paul | June 09, 2014 at 12:40 AM ET |

Do you want to see four of the worst repainted figures of all time? Look no further than 2004's Star Wars "Saga" Skirmish At Carkoon Toys R Us exclusive multipack. This set is an abomination on so many levels. And poor TRU probably had no idea what they were signing on for with this release. See it in detail with comparison shots and our very expressive chagrin in our Research Droids Reviews today. Review: Sith Lord Attack - TSC - Battle Packs

Posted by Paul | June 06, 2014 at 12:35 AM ET |

There have been some fantastic Battle Packs sets throughout the years, but the Sith Lord Attack Battle Packs set from The Saga Collection may be one of the worst. Nothing post-Power Of The Jedi has been included in it which means that the figures were at least six years old when this set was released. Learn more in our Research Droids Reviews today. Salt In The Wound: Yoda Wasn't Supposed To Turn Out Like This!

Posted by Paul | June 05, 2014 at 08:10 PM ET |

UPDATE: A Better Look At TBS Luke Dagobah And His Features

Posted by Paul | June 05, 2014 at 08:50 AM ET |

JTA reader Rob C. gives us a few more up close and personal shots of the new Luke Skywalker (Dagobah Training) figure as well as another shot of an "undressed" Yoda as well as a few surprises. Click through for more. I personally don't think I have come across a more bittersweet figure (Luke) in my lifetime of collecting. It's so good and so bad at the same time!

UPDATE: An image of Luke with his arms bent holding onto the backpack straps has been added courtesy of Rob.

The precursors to the Battle Packs, Hasbro released quite a few Toys R Us exclusive multipacks throughout the various phases of the Star Wars "Saga" line. Some were definitely better than others. Here is the Jedi Warriors set which is probably noteworthy only for the cool exclusive accessory contained within the set, which in case you don't know was originally intended to be packed with something bigger and better. Was this the first sign of Hasbro's yearly tooling cost woes? In general, this multipack is honestly a total pass. Find out more in our Research Droids Reviews today. Anakin Skywalker TBS 6-inch Figure Skirt Fixed!

Posted by Paul | June 04, 2014 at 10:20 AM ET |

Our friends at Yakface.com have proof that The Black Series 6" Anakin Skywalker figure has had its skirt fixed. (We knew it would! All you worry warts out there!) You can see him in high resolution right here on eBay!

In case you haven't heard or seen the breaking news, it has been slipped that the Millennium Falcon is indeed in Episode VII. Joblo.com has some excellent images if you're interested. But as far as Hasbro collectors are concerned, it now seems as if our February "insinuating" Crystal Ball rumor report now has some hard evidence to back up its claims. (Check out that report HERE if you weren't one of the 7,000+ people who read it yet.) It appears that many great things are in store for Star Wars collectors in the very near future!

Review: Han Solo (A New Hope) - Ultimate Quarter Scale

Posted by Paul | June 01, 2014 at 05:20 AM ET |

June is pot luck month! We will be looking at Star Wars collectibles from all over the place with no rhyme or reason. Let's finish up the UQS line first. The Ultimate Quarter Scale figures line died before it got really good. And there were some amazing planned figures too that will sadly never see the light of day. Han Solo (A New Hope) was the final and 9th figure released. It's good, but not perfect. See it in our Research Droids Reviews today. Be sure to leave your own thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even leave comments about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! As always, you can also send your own personal review requests via email if you'd like to see something that we didn't cover yet.
