Driven by revenge against the Sith and consumed by a personal obsession to turn Ezra Bridger to the dark side, Darth Maul faces off against the Seventh Sister Inquisitor, a cunning mastermind who uses a group of mimic droids to track down the Rebels and capture the Jedi.

The Rebels action figures are coming into the line rather steadily. Although the Rebels line look/toy line itself is old history, Hasbro has been making room in both The Force Awakens and Rogue One lines for the animated characters that are part of the new canon Star Wars timeline. An interesting two-pack has been cobbled together for the Rogue One line launch. Kids and collectors can now add the Seventh Sister Inquisitor/Darth Maul Two-Packs set into their collections. A set that should have been a hit out of the park ends up not meeting expectations. And this is because the deco just isn’t up to snuff. As is the case many times, the Seventh Sister Inquisitor/Darth Maul Two-Packs figures have divine sculpts (and we’ll ever say better than “average” paint operations), but the paint operations are either incomplete and/or inaccurate. These figures for many will probably fall under the “close but no cigar” category, while others may be willing to forgive and overlook the missteps here. But we’re conflicted because for anyone to lay out $14.99 for this set and has collected Hasbro figures for as long as we have will ultimately be disappointed. Let’s find out why this is so.

Seventh Sister Inquisitor has a couple things working against her. Firstly, Hasbro approached the design, accessories, sculpt (and most of the deco) admirably. But the final execution fails. She literally has rubber bands for arms. You can’t even articulate her arms at the shoulders without them folding up into a ball to accomplish this movement. Also, because of her petite frame, she has an awful center of gravity and has incredible difficulty standing on her own. It is possible however. Her sculpt looks like it’s rather incredible, but she creepily doesn’t have any lips (or mouth) because Hasbro forgot to paint them on her. We’re so freaked out by this because all we can think of is that terrorizing scene in Twilight Zone The Movie during the It’s A Good Life sequence where the character of Anthony had his sister’s mouth removed. This is the FIRST THING we thought of when we saw this action figure. Creepy, creepy, creepy. On a more positive note, Hasbro gave Seventh Sister Inquisitor a perfectly fitting removable mask, double-bladed lightsaber and a pretty cool (and tiny) ID9 seeker droid. There is a “hole” on her back that looks like it SHOULD accept the head of the ID9 seeker droid, but it didn’t work for us. Maybe this was intended and the final result just fell flat. Please let us know if you’re able to attach your droid to the hole on her back or not.

We were initially excited to see how the animated version of Darth Maul would turn out, but we are once again disappointed. A seemingly good sculpt is ruined by a paint job that just doesn’t reflect the spirit, attitude or personality of this fan favorite Sith Lord. He is shirtless just like in the animated show, but the detail of his costume just fall flat for us. We wish the Rebels television show went with a more classic “shirtless” Darth Maul appearance than what they did here. The figure has a pretty static sculpt, which is fine. But the tattoo patterns aren’t consistent and unevenly placed on this figure. Plus, his eyes are just all wrong. He literally looks terrible. He comes with five point of articulation and comes with a nice helping of accessories. In addition to his double-bladed lightsaber, he also comes with a cool removable hood (it fits like a glove) and a double-barreled harnessed cannon that breaks down in six different pieces (including the projectiles and projectile tips). There are really no winners in the Seventh Sister Inquisitor/Darth Maul Two-Packs set. Both have been approached ideally, but again, final execution just falls flat. These are two needed characters from Rebels television show, so they’ll probably sell well regardless of how they look. We still wish that their respective paint jobs were just flawless however. They’re not.
