On a mission to infiltrate a heavily guarded military complex, Jyn Erso disguises herself as an Imperial ground crew worker, concealing her identity under coveralls and a blast helmet. When circumstances demand it, she can turn marshaling wands into swift and silent combat batons.

So, despite intentionally forcing ourselves to develop no preconceived notions for Rogue One, we have to be honest and state that we had GREAT reservations about Rogue One after the debacle that The Force Awakens was (yeah, our opinion only, we get it). If you felt letdown by Episode VII too, you probably thought Disney was beyond the point of redeeming themselves. That's about where we were. Thankfully they helped us stay on target with great excitement because the beautiful Rogue One film – a film that has exceeded our expectations and made us feel like a Star Wars kid from the late seventies and early eighties again – has been released. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story certainly isn’t perfect, but it added things that none of us expected to see. It was loaded with Original Trilogy goodness and how the filmmakers managed to keep so many secrets quiet is beyond us. The different elements of the film were a bit jagged as the film didn’t flow as smoothly as we would have liked to see, but more important things were in place instead. And the film had a clear and concise plot, so even if you didn’t capture every detail in the film, you still understood the moral to the story. Rogue One is a great film, but sadly this great film has a mediocre toy line. But the good news is that wave 3 of the Rogue One line may be its best yet. And this is a great thing for collectors because we need to get excited for figures again. Wave 3 may provide with some excitement.

Sergeant Jyn Erso [Imperial Ground Crew Disguise] (she doesn’t come with an official subtitle in her name sadly) is a pretty nice figure. In all honetsy, most of us knew this figure was coming the moment we knew the Imperial Ground Crew figure was coming. The Imperial Ground Crew figure stood out like a sore thumb because of his super short stature. (Disney really needs to find taller women to play their heroines and villains so these height issue aren’t so blatant. We digress.) The Imperial Ground Crew figure was simple, but immediately collectors liked him because of his strong ties to the Original Trilogy. Now most of this sculpt has been used to create Sergeant Jyn Erso [Imperial Ground Crew Disguise] and the final result is actually better than the original figure. Although the only new parts here include Jyn Erso’s head sculpt, there are some slight differences in the way the tooling has been carried forward. For example, the lines in the creases are as crisp in this Sergeant Jyn Erso [Imperial Ground Crew Disguise] version when compared to the Imperial Ground Crew. And the paint operations are different as well. Also, the slats for the martialing wands are better tooled this time and attach very nicely to the figure. But that’s not all that is “new” with this figure. No, the best part may surprise you.

Would you believe that Hasbro tooled a separate and removable Imperial Ground Crew helmet for Sergeant Jyn Erso [Imperial Ground Crew Disguise]? It has been cast in a very rubbery plastic that fits beautifully over her bulbous head. It’s simple to wrestle onto her head, but even if you have to force it in spots, it instantly returns to its original shape. It’s very shiny and nearly impossible to tell it has been cast in a different material than the head sculpt of the Imperial Ground Crew figure. With such minimal articulation, there is very little you can do when posing this figure, but it’s good for what it is. Sergeant Jyn Erso [Imperial Ground Crew Disguise] also comes with two martialing wands and a heavy cannon blaster with a projectile. The projectile comes with a removable rubbery tip. This is something Hasbro has been doing lately with these kid friendly pieces. They definitely make the projectiles look neater than they are without them. Sergeant Jyn Erso [Imperial Ground Crew Disguise] is a much nicer action figure than you probably have anticipated her to be. The paint operations are really good and the sculpt is pretty much what you already expected it to be. We’d really love to see a super-articulated version of this action figure for the Walmart exclusive 3.75” line. That day may never come, but Hasbro should know that they’ve robbed those collectors of a truly special action figure.
