Journeying to the sacred island of Ahch-To to help Rey find the exiled Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca meets the Porgs, a hyper-curious species of avian found throughout the secluded island. While Rey is busy trying to master the Force with Luke's guidance, the adorable avians win over the usually fierce Chewie. And when it's time to leave the planet and join the Resistance, the Porgs join the heroes aboard the Millennium Falcon, beginning an epic adventure that will take them far from their home.
The biggest SDCC announcement from Hasbro would have to be the Chewbacca And Porgs set from the Forces Of Destiny. Based on all of the recent cancellations, many Star Wars fans have assumed that the line is on death’s door. But when Hasbro produces a set as cool as this one, it makes you wish that more figures in the line were forthcoming. Always quick to reuse previously made figures and then add a twist to make them new again, Hasbro took the Roaring Chewbacca basic figure from the Forces Of Destiny line and added a family of porgs to complete the set. Chewbacca And Porgs are admittedly adorable. It’s a safe bet that THIS Chewbacca will not partake in roasting THESE porgs for dinner either and will be a whole lot closer to the Forces Of Destiny chapter in which they appear together. Let’s check out this San Diego Comic-Con exclusive set a little more closely. There are things in this set that most Star Wars collectors won’t be able to resist.
Chewbacca is essentially a straight repack of the Roaring Chewbacca figure, but there are some blatant color differences that exist between them. The figure has a decent amount of articulation. You can pose the figure in a variety of ways quite easily. You can make him run, walk, bend over and accomplish other things quite easily. The fur on him is extremely soft. The hair on his head is lacquered so it stays in place, but the rest of the fur freely moves and blows in any air current beautifully. Chewbacca is extremely tall and completely dwarfs the porg “accessories” in this set by quite a bit. He comes with two accessories. He comes with his bandolier, and it’s molded in plastic and completely removable. It slips from his shoulder often, and it’s an annoying thing to deal with when photographing him. His other accessory is the bowcaster (which breaks down into two separate pieces). His molded plastic hands interact with the bowcaster wonderfully. Hasbro ensured everything was in place with this figure.
The porgs are adorable beyond words. Hasbro sculpted a male, female and two chicks in a nest (but they’re not removable). They are all flocked and their textures and sculpts are stunning. Each has a unique personality. For example, one of the porg chicks in the nest has its eyes open. The other chick is sleeping. How cute is that? When you set Chewbacca on the ground, you can pose the progs crawling around his or sitting in his lap. There is great flexibility on how to display these figures together, and we’re thankful for all of these options. The MSRP of the Chewbacca And Porgs set is steep. You’ll have to shell out minimally $49.99 to secure the set. We strongly feel that $29.99 is a much more legitimate price to set this multipack. Hasbro has to realize that the cost of Star Wars toys is becoming problematic at this point. Yes, this is a convention exclusive, but it’s not going to matter when people can no longer afford them, or feel their toys are worth these prices.
