Is it possible that The Vintage Collection Cara Dune action figure turned out better than The Black Series [Phase III] Cara Dune (101) 6” version? We’re inclined to state a resounding “yes” to that question. There is little doubt that the “Photo Real” deco has come extremely far in the 3.75” super-articulated line. Collectors of 3.75” super-articulated action figures had some concerns about the introduction of Photo Real into The Vintage Collection line. Still, in a short while, Hasbro managed to get the new technology to acceptable standards, and the recently released Cara Dune is testament to how far the process has come. Look at that gorgeous face? Cara Dune encapsulates the potential of the 3.75” super-articulated action figure line. Beautiful paint operations throughout the figure are enhanced thanks to lifelike and realistic face deco. Maybe the likeness isn’t a dead ringer for the on-screen version of Cara Dune, but it’s pretty dang close. From the face tattoo to the arm tattoo, to her colorful turquoise and black outfit, Cara Dune is a work of art, and any Star Wars collector that prefers the 3.75” scale to the 6” line should count Cara Dune (101) as one of Hasbro’s finest accomplishments. Despite our praise, Cara Dune isn’t free from all problems. Overall, we’re ranking the figure with a high score, but there are some things we wish were different for this action figure. Let’s take a closer look and see what Cara Dune has to offer the average The Vintage Collection collector.
A perfect and believable female lead, Cara Dune is a surprising entry into the Star Wars universe. Not all female characters, especially many of the recent ones in the Star Wars universe, wow fans. But Cara Dune indirectly forces fans to imbibe her into the Star Wars universe. Her spirit reminds you of Ellen Ripley or Sarah Connor. Yet, she comes off a little more refined too. Physically, and this is only our opinion, Cara Dune reminds us of Rhona Mitra mixed with Lucy Lawless. In this case, the TVC version looks a little bit like Mandy Moore. In short, Cara Dune is a beautiful female in the Star Wars universe, and that, coupled with her role in The Mandalorian, makes it easy to see why she’s zealously embraced by fans of the series. No matter your interpretation of the figure’s likeness, we’re certain you will find favor with what Hasbro accomplished here. As the figures in the 6” line continue to get better and better, it’s nice to see the same effort put forth by Hasbro for The Vintage Collection line too. From the parting of the hair to the snugness of the outfit, Hasbro ensured that every last detail of Cara Dune was expertly recreated for the 3.75” action figure. The articulation system is nothing short of astounding, and the movement you get out of the action figure will make those who love to pose their action figures extremely thrilled collectors. Cara Dune assumes most any position, and whether interacting with The Mandalorian (VC166) or a Remnant Stormtrooper (VC165), the figure does it with grace and realism.
Now that we’ve talked positively about Cara Dune, let’s address some of the figure’s issues. The Vintage Collection collectors may feel robbed. The Black Series [Phase III] Cara Dune (101) figure comes with a separately sculpted dagger that fits into the left boot. But for TVC collectors, they've sculpted the dagger permanently as part of the figure. This move is a painful decision for this figure. The accessory should be a separate piece. Not unlike the TVC Princess Leia Organa (Boushh) (VC134) figure, which horrified collectors that Hasbro didn’t make the thermal detonator a separate accessory, Hasbro followed suit with Cara Dune. The figure’s dagger is part of the sculpted boot. It’s not removable, so the figure cannot hold it in its hands. We find this particularly distressing. Hasbro made significantly smaller accessories for 3.75” action figures in the past, so we don’t understand why they didn’t do the same for Cara Dune, Cara Dune is a character that needs an arsenal of weapons and accessories. She should have come with a separately sculpted dagger, in addition to her two blasters. Cara Dune holds onto the weapons with a tight grasp. When not in use, the blaster pistol is housed in the functioning holster on her right hip. The strapped blaster rifle allows you to drape it over the figure’s shoulders when not in use, which is always a nice feature to have. Hasbro designed all of the accessories beautifully. Hasbro paid close attention to the reference materials when designing this action figure and its accessories. We hope you enjoy this action figure also.
