Celebrate the legacy of Star Wars, the action-and-adventure-packed space saga from a galaxy far, far away, with this collection of premium, highly-detailed 3.75-inch scale figures and vehicles. (Each sold sepaartely. Subject to availability.)

Do you remember the abomination Hasbro created in 2015’s The Black Series [Phase II] line that was supposed to be a Season 6 interpretation of Clone Commander Wolffe (#12)? It looked like an adolescent clone. It was so short an out of scale with the rest of the line. Hasbro never fixed that issue, and we waited years for their next Clone Commander Wolffe action figure interpretation. Thankfully, Hasbro made up for that awful figure in spades, thanks to the character’s inclusion and rightful place in The Vintage Collection basic figure line. Hasbro abandoned the latest Star Wars media in favor of a more classic approach to the beloved clone commander, so this version is based on the Season 4 episode entitled Mercy Mission. This figure is also the first realistic version of the character in the basic figure line in “Phase II” armor. Clone Commander Wolffe isn’t necessarily anything exciting, but Hasbro did a magnificent job of scaling the figure down into the 3.75” super-articulated line. And from a cursory glance, the figure has everything it needs, from an excellent human clone portrait with a removable helmet to the various insignia of the character’s battalion. There are some familiar elements here, but there is newness as well. Mostly, Clone Commander Wolffe is a retool, rework, and repaint of 2015’s TBS [P2] Commander Thorn (#15) figure, which is a rework and repaint of 2015's TBS [P2] Captain Rex (#09) figure. The use of this base figure means limited lower body movement. You’re not going to take advantage of any Clone Trooper (VC45) movement or flexibility here, but there is enough articulation to achieve some meaningful action-oriented poses. The biggest change to this figure is the retooled torso, which now sports new tooling to accept a reverse ball-socket neck joint. And while we would have loved to see the inclusion of ball-jointed hips here, we’re a little more disappointed that Hasbro didn’t throw in the character’s phase I helmet.

In all honesty, none of us gave the 2015 TBS [P2] Captain Rex (#09) or Commander Thorn (#15) figures a chance. We were so angry at Hasbro’s inability to release the “canceled” phase I Captain Rex intended to be part of the relaunched Legacy Collection. Our eyes were wholly blinded by any merit the figure had. Now that we’ve had time to digest things, we have to say that this base sculpt is not a terrible figure. For one reason or another, Clone Commander Wolffe wears the sculpt much better than Captain Rex. Perhaps it’s the removable helmet option. Or maybe it’s the cohesive deco. We’re not sure, but we do know that aside from a lack of battle-damage or wear, Clone Commander Wolffe is an excellent addition to The Vintage Collection basic figure line. The one detail we’re happy to see is that the helmet is perfectly sized for Clone Commander Wolffe. The non-removable helmet on Captain Rex appeared too small. But this one for Wolffe is “just” right. Aside from the new head sculpt, Hasbro recycled everything else from Captain Rex, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at the figure. They did a fantastic job at making Clone Commander Wolffe appear as a “new” action figure in the 3.75” super-articulated line. With a pliable kama and super-articulation, you can easily pose Clone Commander Wolffe in various ways. You’ll have a lot of fun playing with the figure and incorporating it into your collection, and your other realistically styled characters from The Clone Wars. We’re happy to see Hasbro take extra care in ensuring the best possible scale for the many components of Clone Commander Wolffe. It’s a joy to see a helmeted figure that looks proper after so many years of one issue after another. Clone Commander Wolffe looks modern, updated, and refreshed, and nothing like a poorly designed clone action figure from more than half a decade ago. Collectors will be pleased with this figure.

We’re mildly disappointed with the accessories that come with Clone Commander Wolffe. The figure comes with two DC-17 blaster pistols and no other guns. That’s a disappointment. Where are the two differently-sized DC-15 blasters? No clone feels complete without those weapons! The two DC-17 blaster pistols figure well into the holsters designed into the kama, but the figure has difficulty holding them. You’ll find that there isn’t a tight enough grip to keep them into place, and you’ll likely find this frustrating when trying to pose the action figure. It also would have been nice to see Clone Commander Wolffe maneuver a chain-gun around or something similar too, but that wasn’t in the plans for this release. Overall, we have to admit that Clone Commander Wolffe surprised us pleasantly. The character is one of the most popular in the first five seasons of The Clone Wars. Hasbro also focused on the character throughout the many years of the toy line. But The Vintage Collection version of Clone Commander Wolffe comers the closest to capturing the spirit, likeness, and authenticity of the small-screen character beautifully. Hasbro also released a The Black Series 6” version of Clone Commander Wolffe as well. It was the first attempt, but if you’re a 3.75” collector, we waited a long time for this release. There are so many other characters for Hasbro to produce in The Vintage Collection based on The Clone Wars television show. But with a release like Clone Commander Wolffe, we know the franchise is on their radar now. We’d like to see them continue to release the clone commanders, and then we’d like to see them release the corresponding infantry troopers of those battalions next. Of course, Hasbro can always feel free to produce characters from the Disney+ Season 7 too. We don’t think anyone would complain about that at all. Clone Commander Wolffe offers enough newness to the base sculpt, and the line.
