This Boba Fett figure is inspired by the colorful prototypes that enable the development team to look past the deco and focus on the sculpt, analyze mold alignment, and adjust for quality.

Hasbro’s designers use the leftover plastics that make our action figures and cast samples to analyze the details of the sculpt, the alignment where the two halves come together to review any other quality control issues that may arise during the action figure process. Still, some question whether Hasbro ever assembled rainbow-colored action figures to execute this quality control measure. Regardless, Hasbro decided to do the same for Boba Fett that they did with the Darth Vader (Prototype Edition) figure with a lot of the same stuff brought forth, but with a few changes this time. There is debate on how many Darth Vader (Prototype Edition) variations exist. It may not be as many as 3600, but there are certainly more than six. But Boba Fett (Prototype Edition) only has six flavors, making it a much easier job collecting all of the versions that exist. Essentially, if you gather one of each color head, you’ll have all of the variations produced of the Boba Fett (Prototype Edition) action figure. It’s that easy. Or is it? Although there a fewer action figures to collect if you’re a completist, finding them at the retail or online level has proven frustrating.

A Target exclusive, Star Wars collectors often rue the day they were born every time we find out a new Hasbro Star Wars item is a Target exclusive. The pre-order process is nonexistent, and begging your local red shirt to go to the back stockroom to see if they can find the item you’re looking for with the trusty DPCI number is hit or miss. With Hasbro producing less Star Wars action figure volume than ever before, distribution for store exclusives is spotty. The store reports are inconsistent and varied. Someone in California will find them the day someone in New York does. And then some areas never seem to see these things. Despite the impossible chore of buying Star Wars action figures, Star Wars collectors should expect to go through a routine like it’s Groundhog Day until the line ends. This is our lot in life. We’ve been made to suffer. That said, the Boba Fett (Prototype Edition) shouldn’t bring you many surprises. If you have the Darth Vader (Prototype Edition) action figure, you know what you’re going to expect here an action figure with seven different colors across eight separate parts.

Boba Fett (Prototype Edition) comprises a head, body, left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg, rocket, and blaster. The rocket is a different color than the body on each version, but it consistently matches the color of the right arm on each variation. So, if your figure has a red rocket, your Boba Fett (Prototype Edition) figure will have a red right arm without fail. Interestingly, Hasbro decided to include a black blaster with all versions. If you recall, they changed the color of Darth Vader’s lightsaber across the many interpretations, so we’re surprised not to see a colorful blaster included with Boba Fett. Boba Fett (Prototype Edition) is a repaint of 2020’s RC Boba Fett figure, which differs from 1979’s SW Boba Fett figure. The tooling is different as you expect. That’s nothing new here. Although many collectors have complained about another rainbow-colored action figure, it’s proving to be a challenging action figure to acquire. Target online shows that many stores don’t carry the figure, and then others have said that, and the stock magically appears later. Whatever your decision is on this figure, Hasbro seems to have made their point with this gimmicky exclusive. Let’s move on to greener pastures, please.
