Commemorate the first 50 years of Lucasfilm with figures inspired by Star Wars: Clone Wars!

It’s official! Luminara Unduli is now part of The Vintage Collection. But if you asked us if we expected to see the character’s first action figure entry into the line based on the version of the character from Genndy Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars, we’d think you were out of your mind. But that’s what happened. As part of the Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary celebration, Hasbro gave Walmart a wave of six The Vintage Collection action figures based on characters from the original 2D Clone Wars micro-series on the Cartoon Network. They chose three female Jedi, two clones, and one battle droid, and while there are many other characters they could have chosen instead, the half-dozen new action figures are remarkable additions to the line. Hasbro imitated the colorful palette of the series on both the action figures and card art. At first glance, you may feel that Luminara Unduli doesn’t look all that different from the original 2013 TBS [P1] Luminara Unduli (#11) figure, but a side-by-side comparison will show you how much further Hasbro took the action figure. One aspect of Luminara Unduli that’s bittersweet is that the first version of the action figure was part of the line that replaced The Vintage Collection. Here we are almost a decade later celebrating the character’s addition to the line of which it should have always been part. We hope, at the very least, that Hasbro plans to release the action figure on an Attack Of The Clones or Revenge Of The Sith card at some point too.

Like Barriss Offee, the updated version of Luminara Unduli is a standout in The Vintage Collection. As noted previously, the paint operations are quite different from the original release, and Hasbro did a fantastic job making it look as specific as possible to the Clone Wars micro-series. Once again, the Photo Real applications remarkably bring the super-articulated 3.75-inch action figures to life. Luminara Unduli hasn’t looked better in the line, and the updated paint operations to make the character specific to the Clone Wars series are appreciated and beautifully applied. As before, there is a significant design flaw on Luminara Unduli. The figure’s headdress is an annoyance. We understand that Hasbro designed it as a separate accessory, but the slightest bump into it will knock it off of the figure’s head. Every pose you make with Luminara Unduli will require you to adjust the headdress and put it back where it belongs on the figure’s head. You’ll have to alter it constantly to ensure its alignment with the figure’s eyes and eyebrows when moving the arms or fighting with the soft goods. It’s frustrating. But, with all of the deco enhancements Hasbro made to Luminara Unduli, you might not concern yourself with the elevated blood pressure you might experience from the headdress. Headdress issues aside, Luminara Unduli is an exciting release and excellent addition to The Vintage Collection. And what an honor for the character to represent Genndy Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars in the line.

Other enhancements made to Luminara Unduli include the outer soft-goods robe and the skirt. The robe hugs a little more loosely on the figure giving it an authentic layered feel. But most importantly, Hasbro trimmed the length of the figure’s skirt, so it no longer bunches up on the figure. The extra-long soft goods made posing Luminara Unduli a nightmare because the figure’s feet would “trip” over them. Hasbro remedied that issue now, and we’re so thankful that Hasbro manages the soft goods applied to action figures better than they did during The Vintage Collection’s original run. You’ll find almost immediately out of the package that Luminara Unduli displays marvelously. Luminara Unduli comes with three accessories: the removable headdress, a removable soft-goods outer robe, and a lightsaber. While some weren’t crazy about how the soft goods hung on the first version, we believe you’ll be more than impressed with this tremendous update. The lightsaber looks different this time around as the blade is a darker green now. Luminara Unduli holds onto it effortlessly thanks to well-sculpted gripping hands. The figure comes with an admirable 22 points of articulation. The lower skirt inhibits the movement of the legs a little bit, but they still provide options for action-oriented poses. This interpretation is the greatest version of Luminara Unduli in a 3.75-inch scale because it offers the best in all the critical areas meaningful to collectors. We hope that more Clone Wars characters are on the way!
