Star Wars: Battlefront II lets players call in reinforcements from the most skilled soldiers and units in the galaxy, including the aerial specialist Jet troopers.

It’s pretty curious how Hasbro decides to source the characters they produce for The Black Series [Phase IV] lineup. With few exceptions, Hasbro chooses a character’s first appearance as the identified source. But as of late, characters that made their debut in The Clone Wars television series, or another facet of Star Wars Entertainment, are arbitrarily getting placed into other sources instead. Maybe it’s not that big of a deal, but it almost feels like credit is getting taken away from the source that introduced the character to the Star Wars universe. Such is true for the GameStop exclusive Jet Trooper figure. You might have forgotten, but this same character debuted in the Star Wars universe in the fifth season of The Clone Wars in an episode called “Sabotage.” They are members of the 501st Legion and feature distinguishable blue color flashes with red detail added and a jetpack for various space battling. This time, Hasbro produces a version of the character for The Black Series 6-inch line. Aside from utilizing antiquated tooling, it’s a fine release, and the paint job saves it from being a flub.

Hasbro took the “old as dirt” Phase I Clone Trooper tooling from the first phase of the line and used it to make the Jet Trooper. We should all be used to Hasbro continually reusing this buck. They used it on the Elite Squad Trooper (from The Bad Batch), and previous to that, they used it on a couple of the Holiday Edition figures too. First released in the Star Wars [Yoda/Attack Of The Clones], but under The Clone Wars banner, in 2013, it’s remarkable that Hasbro hasn’t revisited the character until now, almost a decade later. The 6-inch version brings to light many details that aren’t captured in a 3.75-inch scale, but Hasbro did a fine job on both of them. We should also note that the 3.75-inch The Clone Wars version is also in animated style. So, it would be fantastic if Hasbro decided to produce super-articulated realistic interpretation in a 3.75-inch scale. The GameStop exclusive figure has a stunning paint job, and it hides much of the inferiority that interrupts its design, like double hinge-jointed knees and elbows. It’s high time Hasbro ceases using this buck for all future clone trooper action figures.

Hasbro included a nicely designed jetpack to fit with the Jet Trooper. It plugs into a new hole installed on the back of the figure, and it stays in place thanks to friction and has an excellent design. They also added a single DC-17 blaster pistol that the figure holds excellently in its right hand. Although the articulation system on this action figure is antiquated, it still attains a wide array of poses, although many are inhibited thanks to the thigh armor. The double hinge-jointed elbows and knees are ugly and unfortunate here, but until Hasbro decides to retire that tooling, we’re stuck with them. Because the figure is part of the GameStop exclusive Gaming Greats sub-line, Hasbro sourced it to Star Wars: Battlefront II, where they updated the game to include this specific breed of Jet Trooper. If you recall, the only other Jet Trooper previous to this design was the more standard-looking 501st Legion Jet Trooper with a green visor and a differently shaped jetpack (and different weapons). The Jet Trooper has an MSRP of $26.99 and is currently only available at GameStop. It would be nice if Hasbro focused on more The Clone Wars-inspired clones for the future.
