It’s painfully evident that we’ll get many Mandalorian characters from a show called The Mandalorian, but when is it enough? A figure like Axe Woves is undoubtedly a lovely addition to the line, but with so many Mandalorian action figures released in such a short time, it’s becoming dull. That said, Axe Woves, a Target exclusive, is officially part of The Vintage Collection. Based on the Death Watch Mandalorian figure release a few months before, Hasbro gave the figure a new head sculpt and paint job, making it as close to screen accurate as possible, but there are sadly notable difference between Axe Woves' costume, and the one used by the Death Watch Mandalorian. The final figure, however, is a passable representation of the on-screen character from The Mandalorian Disney+ series. Our kneejerk response to Axe Woves is that it has a solid resemblance to Jango Fett from Attack Of The Clones. Think of a modern and revised version of Jango Fett, which we have here. The figure has an exquisite articulation system, and the paint operations are clean and defining. The new portrait is stunning and is solely responsible for giving this action figure character. As The Mandalorian continues, we should probably expect to see more Mandalorians in the 3.75-inch line. But until that happens, we have plenty of new characters to enjoy and appreciate, like Axe Wolves, for example.
We were thrilled when Hasbro released the Death Watch Mandalorian (VC219) action figure in The Vintage Collection. It has ball-socket hips, which gives it an inordinate amount of movement in the middle body. Hasbro put a lot of love and thought into this tooling which is why it came out as excellently as it did. Hasbro decided to use this base body to produce Axe Wolves, which works in many ways. Axe Wolves is one of many new Mandalorian characters in the Disney+ series called The Mandalorian. And Hasbro appears to be making the action figures of these characters better and better as we move forward in the 3.75-inch super-articulated action figure line. With enhanced articulation, a gorgeous paint job, and a stunning design, collectors once again don’t have much to complain about here. This figure is an example of action figure making at its best. With Bo-Katan Kryze (VC226), Koska Reeves (VC230), and Death Watch Mandalorian (VC219) from The Mandalorian, the popularity of this series has allowed Hasbro to add the likes of Mandalorian Death Watch Airborne Trooper (VC247), Mandalorian Super Commando (VC243), and Mandalorian Super Commando Captain (VC246) into the lineup as well. These characters enhance displays and help build a fantastic world of character from Mandalore. Similar in appearance to many other Mandalorian characters, the primarily blue uniform is bold and solidifies the character as one that should stand the test of time.
Axe Woves should prove to us that it will become an essential addition to The Vintage Collection action figure line. They nailed the sculpting and included enough accessories to keep things interesting. Besides, it’s a macho male character. We get so few of those in Disney Star Wars anymore. The posture of this figure is one of its highlights. When posed standing on guard with the included blaster, you can’t help but be reminded of the other Mandalorians we’ve seen throughout The Clone Wars and The Mandalorian. The likeness of the action figure is mind-blowingly realistic, and we’re happy to see Hasbro perfect Photo Real in this range of action figures. Axe Woves has a lean and athletic silhouette. And we can’t help but note that the boots are a big part of the distinct look of this character. It lends to a more streamlined and military-esque inspiration and complements the armor perfectly. The jetpack plugs into the back of the figure tightly, so it’s nice not to worry about an integral part of the figure falling off if you look at it the wrong way. Also included are a Mandalorian blaster, the WESTAR-35 blaster pistol, and a removable helmet. Axe Woves is exclusive to Target and comes with an MSRP of $13.99. More and more basic figures from The Vintage Collection are converting into store exclusives. It will be interesting to see what characters are next in the exclusive program.
