Do you remember the episode of Seinfeld when Elaine dates a “bad breaker upper”? So, when it comes time to part ways with her beau, he insults her by calling her “big head.” Elaine initially laughs off the seemingly innocuous insult, but then events manifest around her, making her realize his verbal abuse has validity. A bird flies into the back of her head while walking in the park as if the bird couldn’t miss it. And then she takes a cab home, only to be asked to crouch down lower and lower so the driver could see out of the back window. That’s about where we are with The Vintage Collection Vel Sartha, a figure with a large freak head that sits atop its disproportionately puny body. You might not see this feature immediately. But as you play with the figure and pose it, you’ll notice that something got lost in translation with the portrait. We think Hasbro didn’t choose the most widely seen outfit for Vel Sartha. We noticed she had many costume changes thus far in the series, but this outfit rarely comes up in searches. Aside from the large, rounded head, Vel Sartha brings everything else you’d expect from The Vintage Collection to the table. It’s a well-articulated action figure and has remarkable detail throughout the rest of the body. The “rocker” ankles function well, and the figure looks proportioned to other characters in the line. Hasbro included an articulated blaster rifle. The stock moves (and is ultimately removable) and fits well in the figure’s hand. But we can’t get past the head sculpt here. The actress has a narrower head and chiseled features, and those traits are not represented here well.
