Improvements to clone armor and equipment were made throughout the Clone Wars; by its final battles, nearly all clones had switched to improved "Phase II" armor.
Hasbro may have outdone themselves regarding the Phase II Clone Trooper action figure from The Black Series [Phase IV] lineup. Although the figure comes in mockable woke packaging, the figure inside the useless packaging is a triumph and is easily one of the best figures to make it out by the end of 2023. It’s easy to overlook ANOTHER Clone Trooper action figure, so we understand if many of you don’t glance at this figure. But to do that would be egregious because Hasbro went above and beyond to ensure this Phase II Clone Trooper action figure is in perfect proportion to the onscreen character, both a realistic take on the character from The Clone Wars, as well as the character’s reintroduction in The Mandalorian Disney+ series. The Phase II Clone Trooper comes with the most articulation we’ve seen Hasbro work into the 6-inch line, which means we get 32 points of articulation across 21 areas. This action figure quickly attains all poses you wish to configure for this toy. From running to walking to standing to kneeling, the Phase II Clone Trooper does it all, making us very happy collectors. We get a clone portrait on this figure, but Hasbro produced a bucket that perfectly aligns with the rest of the figure’s proportions, so it looks fantastic with and without the bucket. Hasbro got a bit lazy with this figure’s Photo Real deco. For one reason or another, it seems to be reminiscent of the line’s early beginnings; a “deer in headlights” effect is evident here. But aside from that little hiccup, the armor design and the functional articulation should make you a pleased collector. Another feature we’re enjoying here is the flat white matte of the armor. Shiny clones never worked well, and the plastic they used here seems more pliable and will stand the test of time, both with breakage and discoloring. The Phase II Clone Trooper figures come with three accessories; we wouldn’t expect any more here. We get a removable Phase II bucket, a DC-15 blaster, and a DC-15 blaster rifle. The figure interacts with the accessories beautifully. Overall, we’re impressed with this version of the Phase II Clone Trooper. We hope all collectors look deeper into what this figure offers. And we’re thankful that Hasbro has already given collectors of The Vintage Collection this character. It feels as if we can never get enough clones.
