A deadly, agile Sith Lord, sinister Darth Maul was a formidable warrior and scheming mastermind. He wielded an intimidating double-bladed lightsaber and the power of the dark side.
Hasbro is beating out the many versions of Darth Maul into The Black Series 6-inch line. Darth Maul is another “evergreen” Star Wars character, so they should get them out to the mainstream as often as possible. This version of Darth Maul is based on the character’s appearance from Star Wars: Battlefront II. The Zabrak has the mechanical legs on this release but is slightly more modest than the “Sith Training” look. Hasbro designed a new torso and forearms to give Darth Maul this unique look for the video game, and we think it turned out better than anticipated. The paint operations are bright and crisp. The tattoo patterns underneath the clothing look fantastic, and the paint operations on the portrait turned out splendidly. For this version, we get a new lightsaber accessory. The hilt has a curved blade at the bottom, which still accommodates a red lightsaber blade on each end to maintain that signature look of a double-bladed lightsaber, but this one looks slightly different. Darth Maul (Old Master) has an incredible articulation system. You’ll love what you achieve while positioning the action figure in various ways. But if you’re looking for more interaction with the figure, you’re out of luck. Hasbro isn’t generous regarding accessories and The Black Series 6-inch action figures. They provide the bare minimum, and we find it frustrating as collectors. Part of the Gaming Greats collection of characters typically exclusive to GameStop, Darth Maul is sourced to Star Wars: Battlefront II. This figure turned out extraordinarily well, but you won’t have many other characters to interact with. Hasbro will need to develop that cast of characters a little bit better.
