Inquisitor, The - R - 12-Inch Figures

Well, it seems that Hasbro has made the contrarians happy at least. Big, under-articulated and admirably accessorized 12-Inch Figures have returned, but with a caveat. No longer do they border on super-articulation. Now they’re really just big Saga Legends and/or Mission Series figures with a few enhancements. Interestingly, they are a whole lot better than their 3.75” counterparts in our opinion. For us, articulation and accessories make or break an action figure. But for the 12-Inch Figures (now called the Hero Series line), we get 50% of that wish coming true. It may be enough to keep kids and collectors engaged. The Inquisitor has been chosen for the “deluxe” treatment in the Hero Series scale. He is accompanied by nine extra pieces of plastic and you only have to pay five dollars more to get them. The figure is pretty standard of what you may or may not expect in this line, but the final result is an affordable toy with enough movement and “things” to make him a worthwhile purchase for your Star Wars collection. Will we be successful in tempting you with this format? Well, we honestly have no agenda. But we will admit that The Inquisitor Hero Series figure is not half as bad as you may surmise.

The Inquisitor character didn’t last long in the Star Wars: Rebels television show. Of course this may all be part of a cliffhanger, but who really knows at this point. The thing you really need to know however is Hasbro crafted a clever toy for the younger Star Wars audience and there could be enough here to interest the parents of those kids. Or maybe not. The Inquisitor comes with a pretty need disguise. A rubber mask (yes, it’s rubber) has been included which makes him look like a character from G.I. Joe when wearing it. When fully garbed in all of his weapons that are included, the figure is almost unrecognizable as The Inquisitor. From a certain point of view we find that remarkably brilliant. We don’t think it’s important to “not” look like a character from the television show, but it certainly adds an inordinate amount of play value and/or play scenarios that will add hours of extra interest with a toy that is very limited in what it will offer a kid. Well constructed, The Inquisitor has been cast in a very strong plastic, as well as his accessories, and the paint operations aren’t nearly as bad as what we sadly see in the 3.75” scale thankfully. You should be pleasantly surprised with how well this figure turned out.

The only issue we have with The Inquisitor is the breadth of the scale. Obviously Hasbro can’t produce a 1:1 ratio of Hero Series figures to 3.75” Saga Legends and Mission Series figure. So there are going to be sacrifices that are bound to upset a facet of the collecting community. Characters like Sabine Wren and Hera Syndulla have already been denied basic carded figure status and were part of a two-pack instead. Perhaps Hasbro is playing it safe as they see their lines as a boys’ line, but it’s unlikely they will ever revisit these characters in the Hero Series scale. This of course is a shame because this would be a large enough scale to finally include a removable Mandalorian helmet with Sabine. We digress. The good news is that fans of The Inquisitor will have something to play with and talk about because the Hero Series version of him is done very, very well. We’re amazed at how much extra plastic Hasbro can include for $5. It also makes us confused about the lack of accessories with The Black Series 6” line. If we received nine extra pieces of molded plastic with our 6” figures, the collecting community would probably be a whole lot happier. We hope the Hero Series line continues. If they maintain this quality, it’s a surefire hit in our eyes.
