First Order Snowtrooper Officer/Snap Wexley - TFA - Two-Packs (Snow)

First Order Snowtrooper Officer: The latest generation of cold-weather assault Stormtroopers, Snowtroopers wear advanced insulated armor and helmets that reduce the glare of icy terrains.

Snap Wexley: An ace X-wing fighter pilot for the Resistance, Snap Wexley undertook the vital recon mission that confirmed the location of the Starkiller weapon, and flew in the assault against the abominable weapon.

Meh. The First Order Snowtrooper Officer/Snap Wexley Two-Pack set is just average. And in all honesty, the Snap Wexley figure is a disaster. Perhaps the most accurate description of this set is lazy. Product in The Force Awakens line have been all over the place quality wise. In a single case assortment you can be blown away by the artistry in some of the figures, while other figures can make you just shake your head in disbelief. The First Order Snowtrooper Officer/Snap Wexley Two-Pack will probably make you react both ways, as half is excellent while the other half is in need of major assistance. But even the “good” figure in this set is a character we’ve already seen before but just with a new pauldron. Again, this was an easy effort on Hasbro’s part. With so many cut scenes making many of the action figure choices quite puzzling, we’re assuming that this set was too far into production to edit or change. It’s a shame, because the figure you want to buy this set for isn’t going to meet your standards as a collector.

The First Order Snowtrooper Officer is definitely the star of the set. But we have seen this action figure multiple times in The Force Awakens line already. First he was released as a pack-in figure, then a generic infantry version was released in the Build A Weapon lineup. This time we get another officer, but with a black pauldron instead of an orange. In old school Star Wars, this would mean this First Order Snowtrooper Officer would be a corporal, but who knows at this stage of the game if similar things apply in the First Order. As you know, the First Order Snowtrooper Officer has been derived from a fantastic sculpt, so getting him again in a slightly different variation is something that pleases army builders. And it’s always nice to get something different from the rest to help build a more unique army. They may be in the film, but we’re not entirely sure, but in the scene where General Hux is speaking to the First Order, probably all of these troopers that we’re getting in The Force Awakens and The Black Series [Phase III] lines are in the film, even if only for split seconds.

We should be thrilled with the release of Snap Wexley, but we find the action figure equally as disappointing as 2015’s TFA Poe Dameron (Space) Build A Weapon figure. You guessed it. He’s plagued with the same yellow goggles that the Poe Dameron figure was plagued with and the severely limited articulation is just a deal breaker. For us, X-wing pilots need a wealth of articulation. And with his extra weight, there is no way he is going to fit inside the cockpit of the new generation of X-wing fighter vehicles that Hasbro is making today. As with all Two-Pack assortments, Hasbro includes a larger weapon with some sort of action feature. For this set, a giant grappling hook launcher thingy is the extra bonus add on here. Hopefully Hasbro will realize that well designed action figures with premium articulation are the only gimmick they need to include with their action figures. Overall, the First Order Snowtrooper Officer/Snap Wexley is a disappointing release. We’re hoping that the future releases for The Force Awakens are approached with a little more aplomb.
