S.H. Figuarts is a new standard figure series that incorporates the Bandai action figure "Art" under the theme "Pursuing Character Expression through Humanoid Action."

There are no doubts in our minds that the S.H. Figuarts 6” scale figure line should be the “go to” brand for Star Wars collectors. The level of authenticity is like no other we have seen to date. They’re extremist when it comes to the attention they give to details. And that coupled with an articulation system that allows the figure to do anything you want it to borderlines on blowing your mind. We’ll admit it; there were very few characters in The Force Awakens that grabbed us. Kylo Ren wasn’t one of them. But in our opinion, all of the action figures made based on his likeness has all been top notch. The S.H. Figuarts Kylo Ren figure is pretty darn nice too and offers a wealth of articulation just like all the other figures in this line do, but we have to say that we were slightly disappointed in a few ways the figure was approached. Don’t misinterpret our disappointment. Kylo Ren is an impressive figure. S.H. Figuarts just should have changed a few things before getting approval for the final figure. We’ll hopefully point them out clearly to you. With a wealth of accessories and a fantastic likeness, most high-end collectors are going to find favor with Kylo Ren.

We’re not entirely crazy about the removable hood. It’s much too large and rounded. It reminds us that it is almost like a less exaggerated version of the hood given to 2003’s SW [S - P3] The Emperor (’03 #30) figure. OK, so maybe it’s not that obnoxiously big, but hopefully, you get the point. It also fits loosely on Kylo Ren, so it gets bumped around a little too easily for our tastes. But in all honesty, with the rest of the way the ensemble got approached, we don’t know if they could have improved upon this any differently. The scarf attachment looks fantastic, but the lower robes, while made of the same medium as the rest of his outfit, are cut very harshly into four separate parts. They’ve been done this way to allow for the most lower body movement possible, and from that perspective, this convention works VERY well. But it also looks a little too obtrusive with the harsh cut lines. The texture of the robe is stunning and very screen-accurate. We love the soft-goods on 2015’s TBS [P3] Kylo Ren (03) figure, but they’re not completely accurate. The S.H. Figuarts robes are completely accurate.

Kylo Ren also has a FANTASTIC head sculpt that can see once the hood is removed. S.H. Figuarts outdone themselves here. We couldn’t be more impressed. To top it off, you get an inordinate amount of movement with it thanks to the complex articulation design. Perhaps the accessories are the greatest part of Kylo Ren. He comes with three pairs of interchangeable hands in addition to the left and right hands. He comes with a lightsaber hilt with a plug that allows it to hang from his belt and a lightsaber hilt without the plug so it doesn’t interfere with the aesthetics of the figure. He also comes with a fully lit jagged lightsaber that has been cast in a deep red color and looks so much differently than all the other lightsabers released by this company. The hood and scarf are also completely removable. Kylo Ren comes with over an unbelievable 30 points of articulation. The internal articulation of the S.H Figuarts figures is just as important as the articulation that can be seen with the human eye. They all work together brilliantly to give the action figure the most natural human movement possible. Overall, we’re pleased with Kylo Ren. We don’t like the character, but we do like the action figure. They could have tweaked some things, but overall he is great.
