If you want to see a case in point example of how incorrectly Hasbro cobbles together case assortments, you needn’t look further than the Finn (First Order Disguise)/Captain Phasma Two-Packs set. Hasbro over-shipped the first wave of them for the Star Wars [The Last Jedi] line look launch. Collectors never saw so many Han Solo/Boba Fett and Rey (Jedi Training)/Elite Praetorian Guard sets in one retail location. And then when we went to the next retail location, there were as many in that location as well. To make matters worse, the second wave of Two-Packs contained the Rose (First Order Disguise)/BB-8/BB-9E and Chirrut Ímwe/Baze Malbus, but then was filled with more of the first wave. Instead, Hasbro should have postponed Wave 2 until the Finn (First Order Disguise)/Captain Phasma Two-Packs set was ready. Instead, it was temporarily canceled until it was rescued by Entertainment Earth where they took it as their exclusive. Yes, we’re thrilled that Hasbro gave us the option to secure this set, but if they had put together better case assortments, this set would have already been at retail by now. Hasbro cannot keep repackaging the same things that were previously available in earlier waves. Until they get this, we’re all going to experience this consistent deadlock at retail. Aren’t they frustrated about this as much as we are?!

The Finn (First Order Disguise)/Captain Phasma Two-Packs set is quite nice. It contains two all-new figures. Finn (First Order Disguise) is obviously a first-time offering. What’s nice is that he complements the Rose (First Order Disguise) figure that came in a previous Two-Pack set. Finn (First Order Disguise) comes with a decent likeness, a great-looking uniform, and accessories that are both designed beautifully and are screen-accurate. What’s disappointing here is that his cap is not removable. The inclusion of a removable cap was a perfect enhancement for 2018’s TBS [P3] Finn (First Order Disguise) (51) figure, so we would have loved to see this applied to the 3.75” version. After all, in all of the scenes battling Captain Phasma he isn’t wearing the cap. In addition to the blaster pistol that gets stowed in the holster, Finn (First Order Disguise) also comes with a Z-6 baton. Because of his limited articulation, you can’t make him hold his weapons in screen-accurate or believable ways, but we appreciate the inclusion of them here. It was an incredibly intense battle between Finn and Phasma. It’s a shame we can’t come close to imitating those poses with these simple 5POA figures. Both Finn (First Order Disguise) and his accessories are painted nicely. He’s a nice figure overall and one of the better 5POA figures in the line. But a character like this is in desperate need of more movement.

On the surface, Captain Phasma doesn’t look all that different from the previous action figures Hasbro made of her in the past. But aside from drastically tooled arms (to hold her new spear accessory and her blaster with both hands), Captain Phasma has quite a few other differences in her sculpting than the previous versions as well. Collectors are going to buy this Two-Packs set for the new Finn (First Order Disguise), figure, but there is a good reason to buy it for Captain Phasma too. As mentioned a moment ago, Captain Phasma comes with her long-awaited spear. It’s a simple accessory, but it has been designed to interact with this new sculpt of her perfectly. You can have her hold it high or low, and it looks great no matter which method you decide. She comes with quite a few accessories, actually, and then a harness with a cannon has also been included for additional play value. Both figures come with Force Link technology, but her harness also has its own set of sound effects too. The only thing extra we would have preferred to see employed here is a new head sculpt with battle-damaged armor revealing the face of Captain Phasma underneath of it. Otherwise, we’re quite pleased with this set (judging it through the eyes of a 5POA release only, of course). And exclusive release with Entertainment Earth, you should expect to see this available across the internet via Entertainment Earth’s wholesalers program.
