Lando Calrissian (General Pilot)

General Analysis

The administrator of CLOUD CITY, LANDO flies the MILLENIUM [sic] FALCON in the victory as REBELS destroy the DEATH STAR.

Hasbro has not been able to better Kenner’s 1985 THE POWER OF THE FORCE Lando Calrissian (General Pilot) figure. It’s quite astounding what Kenner accomplished over three decades ago with this character. To date, Hasbro attempted to recreate the mastery of this action figure THREE times throughout the years. While there have been some admirable efforts, none have come close to looking as great as this classic Kenner action figure. From the incredible head sculpt that offers a remarkable likeness to actor Billy Dee Williams, to the silky smooth soft-goods cape that comes with a drape unlike any other, Lando Calrissian (General Pilot) provides excellence in any decade, and if you own this figure you know what I mean. Lando Calrissian (General Pilot) was one of the 13 figures I picked up on July 31, 1985, from Toys R Us in East Brunswick, NJ. I was immediately taken with this figure, and I distinctly remember flipping his cape around and being impressed by how soft it was. But even at a young age, I appreciated how much effort went into making this figure look this great. He oddly came with a black skiff guard blaster, but I don’t think I cared too much about that error. An ideal choice would be a gun that would fit in the holster running across his chest, but Kenner didn’t make this a reality for us. For a simply articulated action figure, it’s quite impressive that Lando Calrissian (General Pilot) holds his own after all of these years. I hope Hasbro gives us an ideal version of this character one day, but it feels like that clock is forever running out. And if they released THE VINTAGE COLLECTION iteration twice, I’d bet it’s a fact that Hasbro has no plans ever to revisit this character. We’re going to have to make do with what we have already.
