Three years after the destruction of the Death Star, the Rebel Alliance continues the fight against the Imperial forces and suffers a defeat on the ice planet Hoth. Luke Skywalker journeys to the planet Dagobah to train with Jedi Master Yoda, who has lived in hiding since the fall of the Republic. In an attempt to convert Luke to the dark side, the evil Sith Lord, Darth Vader, lures Luke into a trap in the Cloud City of Bespin. In the midst of a fierce lightsaber duel with Vader, Luke faces the startling revelation that the Sith Lord is in fact his father, Anakin Skywalker.

Trained as an Imperial assassin, Dengar underwent brain surgery that replaced his hypothalamus with circuitry, making him a nearly unfeeling killer. Now independent as a bounty hunter, he has claimed 23 bounties and carries a personal grudge against Han Solo for severe head injuries he suffered while racing him through the crystal swamps of Agrilat long ago.

With so many 12-Inch Figures under their belt with the Action Collection line, Hasbro continues beating out one new wave of figures after another and collectors of the line can’t wait for the next announcement! Because the Star Wars [Saga -Phase I] line incorporates the whole Star Wars saga up through Episode II, collectors expect to be treated by not only the Prequel Trilogy but a healthy dose of the Original Trilogy as well. After a couple of waves focusing on Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones, Hasbro then focused on some characters from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. After a stellar wave of Episode V bounty hunters from the Power Of The Jedi line, Hasbro added two more characters, Dengar and Zuckuss to the Star Wars [Saga - Phase I] line. Not perfect, but a decent representation of the Corellian bounty hunter, Dengar enters the line looking not that much different than Hasbro’s 3.75” versions of the character.

Hasbro doesn’t stray too far from their basic buck body. Dengar has been produced from the current buck as well. Looking much too bulky, Dengar is a character that has a little more mass than the average Star Wars male character, but they disappointingly made the 12-Inch Figure too “fat” when compared to the on-screen character. With a real fabric suit underneath of the sewn-on armor pieces, Dengar looks faithful to the onscreen character but has some proportions issues that might make him look a tad off than expected. He also comes with gloved hands and a left boot and a right boot. What’s more, Hasbro did a fairly good job with the deco on this figure too. With dark bronze armor and white details, the plastic pieces also have a final wash that appears to have collected dirt and grime from his time in space. Overall, all of the pieces to his costume are here and in place. Collectors should appreciate what Hasbro tried to implement into this figure.

Dengar comes with a removable backpack. It attaches via three plus that protrudes from the back of the figure. The detail of the backpack is quite stunning. The accessory has a great paint job and has every last detail of the film prop. He also comes with a blaster rifle. Although it is also nicely decorated, it appears too small when displayed with the figure. The body of Dengar doesn’t have a wide array of movements, and many collectors will find this disappointing. It feels that 12-Inch figures should be able to move a whole heck of a lot more than a 3.75” action figure, but that’s not the case here. What you likely will appreciate with Dengar is the portrait. Hasbro tooled a beautiful recreation of the bounty hunter’s wrapped and scarred face. With close up views, you can see how much effort Hasbro utilized to make the head sculpt looks so much like the on-screen character. Again, Dengar isn’t a perfect 12-Inch Figure, but you’ll probably admit that Hasbro did a decent job with it, in parts.
