Ten years after the fight to save Naboo from invasion, the galaxy is on the brink of civil war. Under the leadership of a renegade Jedi, thousands of solar systems threaten to secede from the Galactic Republic. A courageous Jedi Knight, his impulsive and headstrong apprentice, and a queen-turned-senator are drawn into the heart of the conflict... and the beginning of war.

A senior member of the Jedi Council Mace is a highly revered Jedi Master. He is a diplomat by nature and seeks peaceful solutions to most volatile issues. However, with thousands of solar systems threatening to secede from the Galactic Republic under the leadership of Count Dooku, Mace believes the time has come for swift action.

Hasbro’s line of 12 Inch Figures does remarkably well for a line that often doesn’t translate the onscreen characters all that well in toy form. Whether they free with poor likeness or much-too-bulky body proportions, most of the early 12 Inch Figures suffered from aesthetic issues which disappointed the collecting community. But as time moved on and the line got better and better with the available technology, so did the figures. For the Star Wars “Saga” [Phase I] line, the 12 Inch Figure never looked better, albeit still imperfect. But between all of the new characters introduced from Episode II as well as brand new versions of characters from the beloved Original Trilogy, the Hasbro 12 Inch Figures line became a more enjoyable subline to collect. And collectors could note the improvements and achievements Hasbro made in the format, even if the figures didn’t reach perfection yet. The characters from the “Jedi Council” range specifically show the improvements Hasbro made in the scale.

Mace Windu is another character in the “Jed Council” collection. In our opinion, and sadly, he’s one of the weakest. The costume looks fantastic, but Hasbro goofed on the approach of his portrait. Mace Windu is smiling goofily, and something went awry in the tooling where the symmetry in his face is skewed, giving him a slightly deformed appearance. It’s not blatant, but it is present. You have to spend a couple of moments analyzing it before you’ll see it, but it’s there. Unfortunately, the disproportion in his face affects the likeness greatly, and it’s quite a disappointment that they decided to go this route with the fan-favorite Jedi Master. We believe that an angry expression would have worked best, as we saw him exude during the Battle of Geonosis because Mace Windu is a highly-respected and intense Star Wars character. The 12 Inch Figure makes him look like a carefree buffoon. That said, Mace Windu also has some redeeming qualities, so let’s itemize what they are.

Hasbro gave Mace Windu a beautifully designed costume. The tunic and shirt underneath are wonderfully fitting and cling to his body frame nicely. And pants are also fitted and tuck into the boots without too much bagginess or ill-fitted aesthetic. Hasbro nailed the coloring of the fabrics too. The tunic is dark tan, while the pants and shirt underneath are lighter colors. Hasbro also tooled a belt that fits around his waist like a glove and has a slot for the lightsaber hilt to attach to when it’s not in use. Mace Windu comes with adequate articulation, although the movement isn’t as free as we’d hoped. The legs, in particular, don’t provide a wide range of movement and work against some of the more dramatic poses you attempt to achieve with this figure. But the lightsaber hilt and blade are excellent, and Mace Windu looks amazing, swinging his weapons. Exclusive to Toys R Us, Mace Windu retails for $24.99. They probably should have kept the MSRP set at $19.99 for these 12 Inch Figures.
