Obi-Wan and Jar Jar meet for the first time in the swamps of Naboo.

From adorable to buffoon, to nicknames like "Jar Jar Stinks" and "The Gungan Menace," Jar Jar Binks creates strong opinions in Star Wars fans. He tends to instill a “ love to hate” or “hate to love” reaction within Star Wars fans. One thing most everyone can admit is that although they could easily do without Jar Jar’s antics, his species is a lovely design, and most of the action figures created of them turn out wonderfully. The same can be said of the Jar Jar Binks Action Collection figure. It’s another nice design by Hasbro and captures a softer version of the onscreen character while remaining faithful to species’ design. Jar Jar Binks comes with adequate articulation, a shiny and leathery screen-accurate outfit, and a paint job that rivals most of their work in the 3.75” range. The Jar Jar Binks Action Collection figure turned out incredibly well, and aside from wishing for a slightly different expression on his face, we feel the Hasbro did a fantastic job on the character in this range. You’re going to be pleased too.

Jar Jar Binks feels tall for a 12 Inch Figure, but that’s because of his elongated neck and large head on top of his shoulders. Hasbro did a phenomenal job of accurately proportioning his features and created a figure that looks like its on-screen counterpart. We’re perhaps most impressed with Jar Jar Binks’ outfit. It’s made up of multiple parts; however and Hasbro utilized a faux leather material that has a natural sheen, bumpy texture, and elasticity that keep it form-fitted against the body frame of the figure. Jar Jar Binks comes with pants, a shirt, and a vest, which are all separate pieces. They are fitted and cling to the figure nicely without looking bulky or ill-fitted. The figure has a decent center of gravity, but it takes some finagling to get Jar Jar Binks to stand unassisted. Sometimes, 12 Inch Figures don’t have great balance without some tweaking, and the same is true for Jar Jar Binks. Sadly, Jar Jar Binks doesn’t come with any accessories, not even an atlatl, so you’re unable to have him interact with anything which is a disappointment.

Jar Jar Binks has stunning paint job. He looks a bit brighter than the character seen in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, but Hasbro did a fantastic job with keeping the deco clean, the patterns on his skin authentic, and keeping the palette of intermingling colors smooth and seamless. Let’s talk about the head sculpt a little bit more. Something about Jar Jar Binks’ expression is off; however, the design of the head sculpt is pretty darn accurate to the character. The design of his ears is nothing short of impressive. From the pointed details at the edges to the veiny texture running up and down their length, Hasbro did excellently re-creating the Gungan’s signature feature. Part of the first wave of Episode I Action Collection figures, Jar Jar Binks joins other heroes and villains for the launch of this format for Midnight Madness 1999. We feel strongly that the biggest issue for Jar Jar Binks is the lack of accessories. That is, there are none. For $19.99, it feels that SOMETHING should have been included here, but Hasbro thought otherwise about it.
