Hasbro decided to end the Masterpiece Edition subline of 12 Inch Figures with the Aurra Sing (Dawn Of The Bounty Hunters) set. Once again, they reserved three of their best figures for this “deluxe” line of collectibles. The sets are visually astounding. Each figure comes in a gorgeous full-color and trapezoidal-shaped package. And once you open the Velcro tabs that are affixed to keep it closed, you’ll find a section for the figure on the left and a section for the book on the right. The Masterpiece Edition line has experienced a unique progression. It started with the Sebastian Shaw-likeness of Anakin Skywalker. It then proceeded with C-3PO, who we find out was built by Anakin Skywalker, and they based C-3PO on the droid’s appearance from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Now they’ve taken a sharp left turn with Aurra Sing (Dawn Of The Bounty Hunters). Bounty hunters are favorite characters for collectors. And we haven’t had a female bounty hunter in the Star Wars saga with such prominence as Aurra Sing. The packaging artwork features the bounty hunters from The Empire Strikes Back, but front and center is Aurra Sing who we see very briefly during the Boonta Eve Classic Podrace in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

Aurra Sing is an oddly beautiful female bounty hunter with an athletic frame and extra-long fingers. A Palliduvan, she comes armed with a small armory of weapons. Like the other figures in the Masterpiece Edition line, Hasbro spent extra time and care and gave these figures all of the detail required and then some. With Aurra Sing, the figure comes with a spandex bodysuit, a belt/holster combination that holds the two included blaster pistols. Aurra Sing also comes with a long, strapped blaster rifle which is taller than the figure is. Aurra Sing is a mixed media figure, meaning there are more than one material used to bring this figure to life. Aurra Sing’s most impressive feature is the rooted hair. Not only did Hasbro incorporate multiple colors of hair while maintaining a bold, red ponytail, they also added beads and other ornamentations to recreate the details of the on-screen character as accurately as possible. They also added the character’s signature head antenna remarkably well too. It’s a little too thick, but we appreciate that they worked it relatively well. From the boots on the feet to the real-fabric bands around the arms and wrist, you’ll find that Hasbro pulled out all of the stops to make an authentic and faithful representation of this new character from Episode I.

Aurra Sing has a remarkable head sculpt too. The white, ghostly head is as beautiful as it is eerie. The likeness of the character is impressive. The character’s dark and soulless eyes work well in 12 Inch Figure form. There isn’t a lot of detail in Aurra Sing’s face, but the few details she has are copied over well here. Hasbro used a relatively new “female” body to produce Aurra Sing. The figure has excellent upper body movement, but you’ll find that the hips and knees don’t articulate well, and posing the figure with these inhibitions will prove frustrating. But if you’re patient, you can find ways to pose Aurra Sing interestingly. The faithful recreation of the character’s costume and the excellent head sculpt, and rooted hair will all supersede any reservations you have about the figure’s lack of articulation. Also included with the Aurra Sing collector figure is a book entitled Aurra Sing (Dawn Of The Bounty Hunters) written by Ryder Windham and Josh Ling. Like the two previous books before this one, it contains a wealth of information about the featured character, Aurra Sing, as well as the rest of popular bounty hunters collectors love. From their background stories to the various collectible formats produced for the characters, it’s all here. The set retails for $75.00.
