The Disney Store is proud to introduce the Star Wars Toybox range of action figures, bringing adventures to life with characters from across The Walt Disney Company.
The Star Wars Toybox line has begun focusing on the villains from the Prequel Trilogy. In just a short time, Disney worked both Darth Maul and Jango Fett into the lineup to help cover the vast Star Wars timeline as evenly as possible. But as Hasbro does now, they’re only selecting the most popular characters from the Prequel Trilogy films and not developing supporting characters for them to interact with or display on a shelf together. The lack of “other” characters seems to be our lot in life with Disney Star Wars. The company seemingly chooses to ignore the fact that the Original Trilogy and Prequel Trilogy motivate fans to buy the products they produce. And while it’s entirely excellent to get hugely popular characters like Darth Maul and Jango Fett, Disney will have to dig deeper into the lore and throw in some background aliens and other characters to help make the line feel a little more complete than it is. Right now, it’s a niche collection of figures, and at this point, it should start feeling like a standard action figure line.
While Darth Maul didn’t meet our expectations, we’re happy to report that Jango Fett has. Based on the character’s appearance from the Battle of Geonosis, Jango’s Z-6 Mitronomon jetpack is gone and replaced with the Merr-Sonn JT-12 jetpack instead. Overall, the figure is an excellent work of art. Disney did a fantastic job translating the character from a realistic style to an animated fashion for this five-inch super-articulated action figure. Oh, and that reminds us. The articulation systems on the figures in the Star Wars Toybox line are brilliant. They’re functional and allow you to pose the action figure in so many ways that it will surprise you. With very few exceptions, all of the Star Wars Toybox line’s action figures are uniform, with 26 points of premium articulation. No one can take away from this line the high level of articulation these figures receive. And the figure can attain a wide array of positions and poses and allow you to recreate their most exciting moments in the Star Wars films.
Where the Star Wars Toybox line falls short is the accessories. Unfortunately, while Jango Fett comes with the Merr-Sonn JT-12 jetpack, it’s not removable. We’re very disappointed by their decision to make this a permanent attachment. So, the only other accessories are the two Westar-34 blaster pistols. Disney designed the hands of Jango Fett to handle the included blaster pistol correctly. The figure holds onto them so tightly, and each figure falls into a groove on the guns’ handles so that they stay in place and won’t come out until you decidedly remove them. Disney designed the blaster pistols beautifully, and they painted them in a silver paint that captures light and glistens in it. The same is true with Jango Fett’s armor. Disney chose a deco that works exceptionally well with these action figures, and while we would love to see vac-metalization, we’re happy with how this figure turned out. Had Disney included a removable jetpack here and included the Z-6 version as a bonus accessory, we would have considered this a slam-dunk effort.
