In a galaxy far, far away, an evil force is gaining strength and threatens an entire civilization.

A respected Jedi Master and a senior member of the Jedi Council, Mace Windu wields a great deal of authority throughout the Galactic Republic.

Commemorate the first 50 years of Lucasfilm with figures inspired by the Star Wars prequel trilogy!

Hasbro announced a special line of The Vintage Collection and The Black Series 6" figures to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Lucasfilm. And the choices range from interesting to peculiar. A facet of the celebratory line includes four characters on classic Hasbro Episode I packaging. Qui-Gon Jinn, Mace Windu, Battle Droid, and Jar Jar Binks, all from previously released The Black Series 6" general release case assortments, now received exclusive "holographic" packaging. Sometimes with fewer accessories, the figures received minor to significant enhancements depending upon the base figure's state. Mace Windu received little updating, if any. The Photo Real deco appears different than the original release, but it's essentially the exact figure. Admittedly, Mace Windu looks fantastic in the extra-large Episode I packaging. And although it's more accurate to assign this figure to Attack Of The Clones instead of The Phantom Menace, it fits in well with the rest of the Episode I Best Buy exclusive commemorative 6" figures. Thankfully, Mace Windu is a complete figure in this exclusive assortment of Best Buy exclusives. It comes with a soft-goods robe and a two-part lightsaber.

If you recall, Jedi Temple Archives broke the original version of Mace Windu's hitting The Black Series 6" line. It was the first 6" "Jedi" figure to come with soft-goods robes and a thicker lightsaber blade (we suggested the latter to Hasbro for years, and it's great to see this approach implemented), and Mace Windu continues to keep the 6" line in check with its enhanced methods. We maintain that Mace Windu is a complete success. From the dynamic sculpting, the uncanny likeness to actor Samuel L. Jackson, and the clever design and relatively seamless articulation system, Mace Windu is a premium action figure. The figure comes with 30 points of articulation across 19 areas, and the joints are fluid, allowing you to achieve various poses quickly. The addition of "butterfly" shoulders is another fabulous enhancement here as well. The joints don't possess a great deal of resistance and changing the direction of arms and legs, and the head sculpt is relatively effortless. We were pleasantly surprised with how the figure can move despite having bulky robes that typically encumber movement. It's not the case with this figure. Overall, Mace Windu represents the perfection Hasbro can achieve in this scale.

The sculpt of Mace Windu is stunning. Not only does his portrait look like the actor, but the contour of his frame is also perfectly matched to the on-screen character. The character's screen-accurate details show how in-tune Hasbro is to the Star Wars saga's longtime established characters. And it's remarkably refreshing to see the love applied to the Prequel Trilogy because often don't get enough characters from it in the 6" scale. What's more, the paint operations that bring Mace Windu to life accurately reflect the details of the costume we see in the film. Extra dark brown boots, off-white pants, and tan inner robes capture this character's essence beautifully. You're going to love this action figure. Aside from the removable soft-goods outer robes, Mace Windu comes with a lightsaber which breaks down into hilt and blade. We're most thrilled with the added thickness they gave his purple blade. We complained about the needle-thin blades given to the 6" figures and how wrong it looked for years. It feels like enough time elapsed to reissue this excellent action figure. We prefer the packaging on this release when compared to the original version. And while it's perfect to see Mace Windu again, there are many other Jedi that need love, too, like Saesee Tiin, Shaak Ti, and Aayla Secura.
