The elite soldiers of Imperial Intelligence, Death Troopers are encased in specialized stormtrooper armor with a dark, ominous gleam.
Hasbro decided to repack three characters from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story into The Black Series Archive line out of the blue. Some of the choices were surprising, but looking at the aftermarket values, a couple of them would indeed benefit from a re-release, especially since their first releases were retailer exclusives. The Imperial Death Trooper is a fascinating character. The black armor is sleek and shiny, and the stature of the character is slim and taller than the other members from the Galactic Empire in the film. Hasbro didn’t make any notable changes to The Black Series Archive Imperial Death Trooper figure. But because Hasbro produced the figure at two different times, slight changes are inevitable, and you made see a few minor differences here and there. But we’re unable to find any deliberate updates here. The Black Series Archive packaging is attractive, so, in our opinion, the figure hasn’t looked better. The red and black boxes from The Black Series [Phase III] line were dreadful. We’re happy to see them go. Besides, don’t all action figures look better on a card than in a box?
The Imperial Death Troopers are bodyguards to Director Krennic, another key player in developing the first Death Star. We also see them throughout the film, like on the shorelines of Scarif. The Imperial Death Trooper is unequivocally a great choice to be part of the fourth wave of The Black Series Archive line, and the figure looks just as good as it did the first time. It’s shiny where it needs to be polished and articulated perfectly. The Imperial Death Trooper should be a hit for fans of the 6” line. The figure looks like an on-screen character. Add a ton of articulation added to a remarkably-looking figure that makes anyone happy. The Imperial Death Trooper feels like a symbol of the new Rogue One: A Star Wars Story film. There is always ONE trooper that becomes the icon for every Star Wars film, and this ebony-colored trooper is it. Then again, some may claim the Shoretrooper is the symbol. Regardless, it’s an excellent 6” figure. The sculpt is beautiful. From what we can tell, Hasbro painstakingly crafted every last detail of the on-screen costume into this 6” toy.
From the crisp lines on the helmet to rounded edges of the armor, the Imperial Death Trooper is a standout member of the Galactic Empire, and we can’t wait to see what damage they’ll do in the Star Wars universe. The Black Series 6” collectors may be disappointed that the elbows are only ball-jointed instead of double hinge-jointed, but we prefer the former for us. Double hinge-jointed elbows aesthetically aren’t pleasing to our eyes. Still, we understand and empathize with collectors who feel that this specific type of articulation offers a broader range of movement, but they feel obsolete now at this point in the game. Just like all Imperials, there are varying ranks of each type of trooper. Stills from the trailers already reveal an officer type for the Imperial Death Trooper. All we get with the Imperial Death Trooper are two weapons, and that’s it. Thankfully, the included weapons interact with the figure very nicely. Those we feel figures like this should come with a healthy dose of accessories; at least they allow the ones that do come with the figure to interact flawlessly with them. It would have been great if Hasbro added the pauldron here, but apparently, that’s wishful thinking.
