It’s more of that 1:1 figure releasing that Jedi Temple Archives recommended to Hasbro years ago, and it’s coming to fruition. Hasbro released The Black Series [Phase IV] Death Watch Mandalorian (TM21) figure in April 2022, and The Vintage Collection version a month behind it. This back-to-to-back release schedule is the competition the Star Wars line needs to be fruitful. And most 3.75-inch collectors will now wait for the properly-sized version of their favorite action figures instead of giving into the 6-inch rabbit hole they never wanted to go down. We’re thrilled to see the Death Watch Mandalorian get a chance in The Vintage Collection. It’s an all-new action figure, and it’s evident that Hasbro put a lot of love and thought into this action figure which is why it came out as excellently as it did. One of the many new Mandalorian characters in the Disney+ series called The Mandalorian, Hasbro appears to be making them better and better as we move forward in the 3.75-inch super-articulated action figure line. Death Watch Mandalorian continues by adding a new character from the popular Disney+ series into a collector-focused basic figure line. And with enhanced articulation, a gorgeous paint job, and a stunning design, collectors don’t have much to complain about here.
Also, we find it fascinating to see the many characters introduced in The Clone Wars television series come full circle in the latest Disney Star Wars Entertainment. We first saw the Death Watch in The Clone Wars, and Pre Vizsla quickly became one of the most-favorite characters when the series focused on the Mandalorians. Now, we see new and old members of the Death Watch reflected in The Mandalorian and subsequently in the Hasbro Star Wars line. The Death Watch Mandalorian is one of many that collectors want to see added to The Vintage Collection. And it’s no wonder why collectors are raving about this figure. It has many qualities of Boba Fett but also has an outfit inspired by Din Djarin while still paying homage to Pre Vizsla. Similar in appearance to the Mandalorian Loyalist, the primarily blue uniform is bold and bright and solidifies the character as one of the familiar strangers that so often appear in the various Disney Star Wars banner. Death Watch Mandalorian doesn’t bring much new to the table for what they do in this scale of action figures, but you’ll quickly discover how it will become an essential addition to The Vintage Collection action figure line. They nailed the sculpting. And they included enough accessories here to keep things interesting.
Like The Black Series [Phase IV] Death Watch Mandalorian (TM21) figure, the posture is one of this action figure’s highlights. When posed standing on guard with the included blaster rifle, you can’t help but be reminded of Boba Fett from The Empire Strikes Back, and it’s a mind-blowingly realistic recreation that you have to remind yourself it’s a toy. The Death Watch Mandalorian has a lean and athletic silhouette. The boots are a big part of the distinct look of the Death Watch, so it fits here. It lends to a more streamlined and military-esque inspiration, and it complements the armor perfectly. Unlike the 6-inch version, the jetpack plugs into the back of the figure tightly. It’s nice not to worry about an integral part of the figure falling off if you look at it the wrong way. Also included are a Mandalorian blaster, the WESTAR-35 blaster pistol, and a blaster rifle, which the latter seems a lot like Boba Fett’s blaster rifle. The Death Watch Mandalorian poses beautifully with all of the included accessories. Also, the semi-new addition of ball-socket hips tremendously helps pose the figure in various poses, from kneeling to running. Your options are endless. We hope that Hasbro keeps up with the high quality of their all-new Star Wars action figures. And we hope they finish The Ninety Six ASAP. Paul Harrison needs retirement BADLY.
