Gerrera is bunkered on the ancient world of Jedha, coordinating a prolonged insurgency against the Imperial occupation, his ailing health does little to wither his resolve to fight.

Many Star Wars fans enjoyed Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but the many who enjoyed it were also drawn to the character of Saw Gerrera, played by Forest Whitaker. Hasbro got out a 5POA version of this character in 2017, but despite a well-designed figure, it lacked the necessary articulation to be a functional action figure. And a side-by-side comparison to the 6-inch figure today will reveal that Hasbro didn’t give the 5POA figure an accurate paint job. That said, it took half a decade for Hasbro to get out the first super-articulated version of the character in The Black Series [Phase IV] 6-inch line. But once again, Hasbro shows their contempt for their customer base by making Saw Gerrera a “deluxe” figure. Saw Gerrera is no more than a basic The Black Series 6-inch figure. Sadly, all-new tooling means collectors will pay “deluxe” prices from here on out. The format is a scam, and there is no reason for this figure to cost, at worst, $24.99 and, at best, $19.99. If the 6-inch bottom line can’t cost out the action figures at an affordable price, it’s time to put the line to rest. They’re pricing out the collector market, so they need to cease this madness until they can figure something out.

That said, the figure turned out lovely. Hasbro tooled a faithful portrait with a likeness not too far from Forest Whitaker. We’d note that the left eye doesn’t appear as droopy or swollen as the on-screen character. Still, you can tell that Hasbro did attempt to recreate this infirmity as closely as possible The Photo Real deco looks excellent. The rest of the figure has a beautiful paint job, so collectors will discover that it meets their expectations rather quickly. Hasbro also faithfully developed Saw Gerrera’s body type excellently while working in a fantastic amount of articulation. The figure comes with the standard articulation system of some of the most recent 6-inch figures in the line, so that’s a wonderful addition here too. Saw Gerrera’s costume is quite complex, with many ornaments and things hanging off the ensemble. Hasbro worked on a decent amount of these details and designed them as removable accessories. These parts include a removable cape, a removable mask part, and removable left shoulder armor. You’d think that more features are removable on this figure, but we only get a taste of the complexity of it with the removable parts.

For weaponry, Hasbro included a blaster pistol. They also tooled a functioning holster that looks like a flipflop, and you can store it there without having the figure posed with it. The blaster is excellent, and we’re happy to see it included. We also get the character’s staff. It also has some lovely details. The figure can hold it with either hand or in various other ways as you desire. But even with the two weapons and removable parts, Saw Gerrera is hardly a “deluxe” action figure. Hasbro would need to include a plethora of other things here to get close to “deluxe” status. We’re sick and tired of them blatantly pulling the wool over our eyes. It’s time to start standing up to this madness and incessantly complaining that they’re ripping off their collector base with these ridiculous faux-deluxe action figures. Enough is enough. Although we’re thrilled to see Rogue One: A Star Wars Story get all this focused love, it doesn’t give Hasbro license to make ridiculous decisions and overcharge when it comes time to developing all-new tooling for a new action figure. Available in the general marketplace, both online and in stores, the standard MSRP for Saw Gerrera is a laughable $33.99.
