Battle droids operate Separatist droid speeders to attack the clone trooper army. The speeders may be lean in size, but they have plenty of built-in laser cannons to unleash on the troopers. The wings move to enhance its maneuverability during combat.

There now again exists evidence in the toy line that Hasbro truly loves us. Specifically, Hasbro has showed collectors all-new affection with the release of the Deluxe Separatist Droid Speeder With Battle Droid. Not only do we get an all-new well-crafted miniature vehicle, but for the first time we have a Battle Droid figure with articulated knees! Oh, and in case you're wondering, the Battle Droid is an all-new figure with better proportions and better aesthetics all around! How incredible is this? This is honestly a dream come true because until now we haven’t had this much needed articulation in the Battle Droid. The bonus is that it fits the interactive needs of this set flawlessly well. As an extra special touch, Hasbro has given the Battle Droid an all-new paint job which isn’t specific to any episode of The Clone Wars series, but unique to the Deluxe/Class I line. We still think this Battle Droid is based on OOM battle droid commanders from some of the episodes. But technically this means Hasbro pulled this concept out of their own heads.

We like that Hasbro is treating this series as its own separate entity. Although a few of the sets in the Deluxe line are directly inspired from the television show, it appears that Hasbro is branching well into the “just off-screen appearances” of some very cool vehicle concepts. And we're quite taken with how much effort Hasbro is putting into this line now and their efforts are paying off big time. We apparently needed "cheesy" sets in the beginning to finance what the line is now. And it's something that should thrill you. While the Separatist Droid Speeder looks like a glorified Sith speeder in some resorts it also looks like a believable Separatist weapon at the same time. And it even looks like a BARC speeder in others aspects. It is colored in that typical gray and navy blue color scheme and has the obligatory Separatist icons/insignias to remind you who this vehicle and rider serve. It isn’t too functional, but has a few play feature to keep it interesting for the kiddies. You can “drop a bomb” by clicking a button on the top-back of the seat and it presses down a torpedo.

The side wings can fold down when you have the vehicle in flight and in this mode it looks like a miniature version of an Imperial shuttle. Four of the side guns are removable, but pretty much everything else is locked in place. There are no firing projectiles or anything here, so what you see is pretty much what you get. The real star of this set is the new and extra-articulated Battle Droid. Just take some time to compare this figure side by side to the Battle Droid figures we already have. You wil instantly see how much better this sculpt is. And we hope that Hasbro will use it going forward when they make new Battle Droid flavors in the basic figure line! it’s quite amazing how much flexibility is added by the inclusion of knee joints. They aren’t fancy articulation points, but it’s more than enough to get the job done. Overall, this is a fun toy and we highly recommend it. The reinvigorated Deluxe/Class I line is really making us happy. We hope you’ll give sets like this a whirl and see why they are so much fun. These are great mid-priced toys for kids and collectors alike.
