As the title says the brand new Star Wars series showrun by Dave Filoni and featuring Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka will have its first episode released on August 23rd, which is once again a Wednesday. Ahsoka will reunite with her friends from Rebels, including Sabine (played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Hera (played by Ewan McGregor’s partner Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and ultimately also Ezra. Thrawn (played by Lars Mikkelsen) will be featured in some capacity and yes, we also get to meet yet even more Order 66 survivors, late Ray Stevenson plays the Order 66 survivor, his character is described as being some kind of “mercenary”. Anakin Skywalker is also rumored to be featured, how exactly is not sure, and Temuera Morrison will reprise his role as Rex. Inquisitors will also return. Let’s hope this time they will act a bit more professionally than in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Are you excited about the brand new series? Or are you a bit wary after Lucasfilm’s recent track record with their Star Wars shows? This is Dave Filoni’s first big live action project, he previously collaborated with Jon Favreau on The Mandalorian. Ahsoka, together with The Mandalorian and probably even Skeleton Crew is meant to culminate in the yet untitled big crossover Mandoverse movie directed by Dave Filoni. So a lot will hinge on the success and popularity of Ahsoka.

Check out the latest Vanity Fair article featuring a look at Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, and Ahsoka. Obi-Wan Kenobi premiers in just over a week!

Pre-production for Ahsoka (tentative release date is 2023) is on its way and according to Deadline Lucasfilm cast Australian model/actress Natasha Liu Bordizzu. She is 27 and of Chinese/Italian descent, hence the interesting name. She has appeared in a few movies and shows, most notable is certainly the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel from a few years ago. According to rumors the Ahsoka series will resolve the Rebels cliffhanger ending and explore what happened to Thrawn and Ezra. Not much else is known at the moment. What do you think of the casting choice? In my opinion Natasha absolutely looks the part and seems like a great choice for Sabine. Now the big question is, will Sabine on the show have a lovely accent from Down Under? And next up: will Hasbro give us a live action Sabine Wren action figure?

It should be common knowledge by now that Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Darth Vader / Anakin Skywalker in the upcoming Kenobi series. However, this is not where things will end. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Hayden Christensen will also appear as Anakin Skywalker in the Ahsoka series, which is set 5 years after the events of Return of the Jedi. So of course Anakin has been dead for five years. But since death is not even an inconvenience in the Star Wars galaxy chances are Anakin will appear as a Force ghost. Or maybe we will be see Ahsoka clone wars flashbacks and/or visions. Details are not known at this point. The sequels had a disturbing lack of Anakin Skywalker Force ghost scenes, even more puzzling when you consider the fact Kylo Ren was Darth Vader’s biggest fanboy and also his grandson. One of the many oversights of the sequels. But it seems Lucasfilm is willing to rectify that mistake by offering Hayden Christensen various roles in their Disney+ series. Will you be happy to see much more of Hayden as Anakin (or Darth Vader) in the next few years? And who knows, maybe Lucasfilm is gearing up for a proper Darth Vader series that focuses more on the man behind the mask. Hayden is still quite young, only 40 (he was really young in Attack of the Clones), so he’s about the right age to play a late Empire era Vader or post ROTJ Force ghost, he could probably also still play his younger clone wars self with some make-up wizardry. Would you be up for that?

When death is barely an inconvenience

The first two new upcoming live-action series have just been revealed, both taking place during The Mandalorian timeline: Rangers of the New Republic and Ahsoka. 

Both series will be helmed once again by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, and at least 1 of these will drop on Christmas 2021!
