Stephen Schiff will be the showrunner for the upcoming and as of yet untitled Disney+ Star Wars show about Cassian Andor (Diego Luna will reprise the role, as you remember). Schiff was, among other things, a writer/producer for the excellent show “The Americans”. He also wrote a few movie scripts, among them the 1997 adaption of “Lolita”, the Clint Eastwood movie “True Crime” and the Oliver Stone drama “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps”. So even if that means that Schiff has no experience with genre work, he has experience writing both Hollywood movies and tv shows. Maybe he’s a Star Wars fan, and if not, he has plenty of time to get acquainted with the franchise.
Nothing else is known about the Cassian Andor series yet. I suppose we’ll learn more about Stephen Schiff’s plans for the show next year. We’ll keep you posted!

Now that comes as a nice surprise! Disney announced yet another live action show for its upcoming streaming service Disney+ (the name was also announced)! And the show will revolve around none other than Cassian Andor, starring Diego Luna, who will reprise his role from Rogue One. Not much else is known, other than the show being a prequel to Rogue One (for obvious reasons). According to the official announcement the show will be a spy thriller. Production will begin next year. No release date has been announced yet!
So, what do you think? Are you excited? Rogue One is one of the best liked Disney era Star Wars movies and Cassian was quite intriguing in the movie, his entry was memorable and showed that he is willing do to anything to reach his mission goals. And while it is perhaps unlikely the show might even feature the one or the other Rebels character, since the events in Rebels and Rogue One might overlap. And of course it could mean we get more K-2SO!

Variety has a new exclusive story: apparently JJ Abrams is seeking to strike a huge deal with an entertainment company, in an effort to consolidate his business. As of now, Abrams has a contract with Paramount (for movies) and Warner Bros. (for TV related work). Abrams wants to change all that and is seeking a deal that would encompass not just movies and TV shows, but also digital content, music, games, consumer products and even theme park opportunities. Alright, here we go, folks! With EXTRA SPECIAL thanks to friend and JTA reader Logan, we’re able to provide you an exclusive look at the interior and exterior of the Disney Droid Factory Sandcrawler Playset. This thing is beyond impressive. It comes loaded with lights and sounds (video forthcoming) and has INCREDIBLE sculpting within its four walls that has completely blown us away. The detail is overwhelming and has plenty of room for a hoard of droids. This is going to be a hot item for 3.75″ collectors. Disney went above and beyond here. We should count ourselves very, very lucky! By the way, measurements are 20″ long, 9.75″ wide in the front and 9″ wide in the back.

UPDATE: The Sandcrawler’s full features include: retractable claw, opening light-up cockpit, motion activated sound, lights, sound effects, trap door, motorized elevator, light-up furnace.

And here are some awesome new loose images of the pack-in “GONK” Droid, which looks to be based off of The Vintage Collection Special Action Figure Set figure by Hasbro. We will never see the vintage Kenner blue one ever in 3.75″ scale updated?

Site IGN has posted a brief article confirming that Disney will slow down the pace of its Star Wars films going forward. While this isn’t entirely news, there are some other details which you may find intriguing depending on how you interpret them. Check out the article and then come back here to comment!

Whenever you want to make a Star Wars toy, you need to have a license. This should be pretty common knowledge. Lucasfilm and Disney protect their intellectual property and whoever wants to make anything based on Star Wars needs a licensing agreement. Now, these agreements are usually secret, other than some very basic facts, no specific details are released, so it’s usually very difficult to know how much money is involved.
While digging through the internet I was able to find a (somewhat redacted) licensing agreement between Hasbro and Lucasfilm from October 1997, an agreement that was extended several times in the meantime until 2020. And while redacted, it is still very informative, so informative that I think anyone should click through now to read all the details and to finally find out how much Hasbro is paying for that Star Wars license! You may be very surprised. Also, a very interesting question will be answered: who actually owns anything Hasbro makes?
