Hasbro produced a decent version of Doctor Aphra, but it reuses 75% of existing tooling (more….)
Gentle Giant posted an updated gallery for their upcoming Doctor Aphra Mini Bust. Click here for the full gallery. You can pre-order over at their main site.
The comic book industry, like so many other industries, is suffering a lot at the moment. A few days ago the largest comics distributor in the US and UK, Diamond Comic, said they will stop distributing comics for the direct market (i.e. comic book shops) for the next few weeks. And with Diamond being the exclusive distributor for Marvel and DC Comics, that means pretty much all the big titles won’t see a print release in the next few weeks. Now the big question is if comics would still be released digitally. And both Starwars.com and Lucasfilm announced that the relaunched Doctor Aphra comic from Marvel would see a release as a digital exclusive on April 1st. But now a source at Marvel told comic news website “newsarama” that the info is inaccurate and that there will be no digital release for Doctor Aphra #1. And apparently that source was correct, Starwars.com changed their preview article and now it says “coming soon”. Digital is only a fraction of the print market and selling the comic as a digital exclusive may not be the best option, especially for a relaunched #1 title. Also, comic book shops will need a lot of hot sellers once they reopen and selling comics as digital exclusives may put even more burden on them. And of course Marvel and DC love relaunches, because #1 releases usually sell a lot more than issues from long running series. And a printed comic would most likely make more money. The main Star Wars title was relaunched a while ago for that reason as well. So delaying the release of Aphra is probably the best option for both Marvel and comic book shops. But as a result of this comic book fans waiting for new Star Wars issues probably need to have a lot of patience in the next few weeks.

Wave 19 of The Vintage Collection concludes with Doctor Aphra (VC129). Check her out in our full Visual Guide below. Click here to also read up on this figure in our full review.
This is the second release of the Doctor Aphra figure. Find out why, although a great figure, her packaging doesn’t make sense and decide if we needed to see her again so soon in the basic figure line. It’s all in our Research Droids Reviews today! Yes, you read that right. Wave 2 is barely showing up in stores in America and Europe and wave 3 is already showing up overseas! I’m sure we can expect to see these on eBay fairly soon… This does negate a previous rumor that the Praetorian Guard would be taking the place of the Range Trooper in this wave (thankfully false). Shout out to John P. and his friends who sent him these images!!
eBay seller tunghori has relisted some of the most highly sought-after TVC basic figures including Stormtrooper (Mimban), Rey (Island Journey) and Doctor Aphra! Hurry before they’re gone! Special thanks to JTA reader Mark and Gregory G. for the heads up!
If you missed out on the Doctor Aphra Comic Set at Hasbro Toy Shop today, you still have a chance to pay a “reasonable” price for it on eBay. There are sellers that have it for just a little over MSRP and some have a FREE shipping option. If you consider you didn’t need to buy a plane ticket or convention admission to get it, then this is a steal! 3.75″ for the win forever!
My very good friend Chris Swanski (who derived WAY too much pleasure from my swear-word typo on Facebook messenger yesterday) suggested that I should let our audience know that the Doctor Aphra Comic Set is going for ALARMINGLY low aftermarket prices on eBay. Many are just a couple of dollars about standard MSRP, and even more, have FREE shipping. Sure, this item has yet to hit Hasbro Toy Shop yet (we’re about two days away from that by the way), but if you’re interested or worried that you might miss this or the other exclusives, it feels that the right time to bite is now.
Today we are adding the SDCC exclusive The Vintage Collection Doctor Aphra Comic Set (Special Action Figure Set) to our Visual Guides. Click below to check out our full guide page. Make sure to also check out our full review of this set right here!
MORE NEW FIGURES! You saw our sneak peek. But now it’s time to analyze the contents of the Special Action Figure Set (Doctor Aphra Comic Set) which is a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive. Is it everything it’s cracked up to be? Find out as it’s the focus of our Research Droids Reviews today! Be sure to leave your thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or even comment about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! Steve Evans updated his Instagram page with some fantastic images. Something strikes me as odd however. The basic carded Doctor Aphra has been placed on a Star Wars card back instead of an Expanded Universe one. Hmm.
Hasbro has sent out San Diego Comic Con exclusives, and tonight we have a full gallery for you to enjoy of the Special Action Figure Set (Doctor Aphra Comic Set). The set is very, very nice. Here are some quick points about it. The set is overpriced by about 100%. At most, the set should cost no more than $34.99. Doctor Aphra is an all-new figure. BT-1 (Beetee) is based on the original astromech droid Build A Droid sculpt (it even has the 2008 date stamp on it) but comes with a new dome and some pretty incredible accessories. 0-0-0 (Triple Zero) looks fantastic and should have been sold as a basic figure before Doctor Aphra. It shows that Hasbro still isn’t focusing The Vintage Collection toys on the market who will buy it. The tooling on Triple Zero has worn over time, sadly. The parts don’t stay on as tightly as they should anymore. Hasbro could have easily glued them on instead, so we’re thankful that the figure still has playability. Anyway, check out our complete gallery. The review is about two-weeks out (we have a lot going on right now), but you can check out all of the important stuff now.
What a coincidence! My logic was right on the money! Hasbro reveals via io9 that there will be a The Vintage Collection Special Action Figure Set three-pack including Doctor Aphra! Amazing set! It also includes Triple Zero (0-0-0) and BT-1 (BeeTee) which likely will remain exclusie to this set! Great job, Hasbro! This set looks fantastic!
BUT WHO WILL IT BE? It’s always fun to speculate what’s coming next from Hasbro, and this is especially true when it comes to San Diego Comic Con exclusives. Hasbro has already let it “slip” that there will indeed be a The Vintage Collection SDCC exclusive this year. So, based on past experience, we’re going to surmise what it might be. Click through for more.
