While the main event is scheduled for Sunday, the Creative Arts Emmys for the more technical categories were already awarded yesterday. And The Mandalorian won in five categories! Emmys were awarded for Outstanding Special Visual Effects, Outstanding Cinematography for a Single Camera Series, Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series, Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series, and Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Program. And while movie or tv awards are rather arbitrary and even though fewer people care about award shows each year, this is a very deserved win for The Mandalorian in these technical categories. So congratulations to the VFX, sound, camera and production design people who helped create The Mandalorian! Their hard work more than paid off!
The Mandalorian could still win the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series and Giancarlo Esposito could win an Emmy for his portrayal of Moff Gideon (he is also nominated for his role in Better Call Saul), but the competition is tough and a win seems unlikely in either of these categories.
Star Wars: Resistance has been nominated for an Emmy in the “Outstanding Children’s Program” Category. Also nominated in this category are “A Series of Unfortunate Events”, Carmen Sandiego (both Netflix shows), the HBO documentary “Song of Parkland” and HBO show “When You Wish Upon A Pickle: A Sesame Street Special” (Pickle Rick anyone?).
Dave Filoni and team did win an Emmy (three, actually) for Star Wars: The Clone Wars several years ago, Rebels was nominated several times but didn’t win, so Resistance is the third Star Wars animated show to be nominated for an Emmy.
Also, Star Wars: Resistance will see a home media release on August 20th. Will you buy the DVD for your kids (or yourself)?
Nominations for the 70th Emmy Awards were announced today and Star Wars Rebels was among the nominees. In total, the final season of Star Wars Rebels received three nominations. The series was once again nominated in the Outstanding Children’s Program category. In addition, underappreciated composer Kevin Kiner was nominated in the Outstanding Music Composition For A Series category for his work on the Rebels’ series finale. Kiner and Star Wars Rebels will face off against Emmy juggernauts Game of Thrones and Westworld in that category. Finally, Star Wars Rebels was nominated for Outstanding Sound Editing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (Half-Hour) And Animation. Congratulations to the cast and crew of Star Wars Rebels for their latest Emmy nominations and an impressive four seasons of Star Wars television! Click here to see the full list of nominees.
The 2017 Emmy nominations were announced this morning and Star Wars Rebels and Carrie Fisher were among the nominees. Star Wars Rebels was nominated for Outstanding Children’s Program while Fisher received a posthumous nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on Catastrophe.
