Today is January 30, 2022, and that means it’s been ten years since Hasbro released the Star Wars [The Phantom Menace 3D] line. Where does the time go? Although revered as a controversial lineup of a motley crew of products, it contained some of the best items we ever received from Hasbro. Yes, and it contained some of the worst products as well. Many blame Lucasfilm for the deluge of wave 1 products in this line that flooded stores everywhere. It’s believed they marketed this event as a new film, and stores bought up the products like there was no tomorrow. It would explain such an overage of products on the street date. Collectors would find “TPM 3D” products nearly everywhere for many years.
In the confusion of perplexing re-releases, overcharged 5POA action figures, and a deluge of products that rotted on shelves for years afterward, it’s easy to forget that the line did bring collectors some amazing newness and goodness. Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and recapture the good, the bad, and the ugly that this line brought to the Star Wars collecting community.

After the recent article about Star Wars trending on Google, I thought it might be fun to take a closer look at how various Star Wars characters are trending on Google, both old and new. The results may make some people happy, others not so much, some of the results are certainly surprising! Some spoilers: Russia loves Kylo Ren! Japan loves droids! And Jar Jar Binks is trending more on Google than Finn, Poe or Rose, even in 2019. How is any of that possible? Click through for a few comparisons between Star Wars Characters!

As the rumors regarding a potential Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone film starring Ewan McGregor continue to swirl, a lot of fans have wondered if we may see the return of Qui-Gon Jinn in this rumored film. Yahoo Movies UK had the chance to ask Liam Neeson about returning to the role of Qui-Gon. Neeson said, ““This is the first time I’m hearing of this, no one’s been in touch with me. I know in the Star Wars world anything is possible. In the first one, The Phantom Menace, I died but we know, you know, Jedis come back and stuff but no one’s been in touch. We’ll see.” It’s not surprising that Neeson would be open to returning to Star Wars. More than most actors, Neeson has spoken very highly of his time in Star Wars and even voiced Qui-Gon in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Would you like to see Liam Neeson and Qui-Gon return in a Kenobi film to mentor his former Padawan? Let us know!
JTA reader Richard P. sends us a cool store report from Fred Meyer in Lacey Washington. Unbelievably they’re getting in kicker displays full of The Black Series [Phase III] Emperor’s Royal Guard wave which also includes Lando Calrissian, Tusken Raider and the revised K-2SO (among others). To date this case assortment has barely made an appearance at retail, so maybe they’re finally beginning to hit now.
Entertainment Earth is sending out emails notifying readers that their orders for The Black Series [Phase III] Qui-Gon Jinn are being cancelled. The message reads “We have been notified by the manufacturer that we will not be receiving any additional shipments of Star Wars The Black Series Qui-Gon Jinn 6-Inch Action Figure, (Item HSC2141), because they have discontinued production of this item at this point in time.” If you still need this figure or your order has been cancelled, this figure is still IN STOCK with Prime at Amazon.
In case you need any of them, waves 8, 9 and 11 of The Black Series [Phase III] 6″ line are ALL hot off of the truck at Entertainment Earth!
I asked Matthew H. from Star Wars Black Series 6″ Collectors Facebook page if I could share these images here at JTA. While it’s obviously just a mistake, it’s painful nonetheless because of the rarity these things show up in stock for normal MSRP. Look what he received in place of the two figures he should have received instead. That’s got to be a punch to the gut!
