As all of you are aware, Avengers Endgame is opening this weekend. And the movie already had a record breaking $156 million Friday in North America. And while it’s not really that important, I do wonder if Endgame might actually beat The Force Awakens and become the new number 1 movie in the all time domestic box office charts (unadjusted for inflation). Infinity Way also had a better opening weekend than The Force Awakens but eventually ended up making only about 2/3 of The Force Awakens’ box office. So, what do you think? Will Endgame beat The Force Awakens? And… do you think The Rise of Skywalker has any chance at all to beat Endgame and become the number 1 box office hit of 2019? It will be difficult to top Endgame’s opening weekend, that much is certain!
Guess what? I watched The Force Awakens for the first time since it was in theaters over three years ago tonight. Those that read with any regularity know how I feel about the film. But if you don’t, in short, I think it’s the worst Star Wars film of the bunch (yes, I think it’s worse than The Last Jedi by a landslide). And I would go so far to say that it’s one of the worst films “period” I’ve ever seen too (for its deception of not being much more than an Episode IV reboot). That’s not hyperbole. I feel it took Star Wars down a path that a large chunk of the community couldn’t follow. Anyway, this isn’t another chance to jibe the film. I have rethought a couple of things, and I felt it is worth sharing. Click through for more.

Digital photo site Shutterfly asked more than 1,000 people for a representative survey what defining movie of the 2010s they would put in a time capsule to conserve for posterity. And the winner with the most votes: The Force Awakens. But when you look at the details of the results an interesting trend can be seen that should be cause for alarm for Disney. JTA moderator Sjefke is thrilled to find a $5 Rathtar set at his local Walmart on clearance, but this speaks volume. It speaks volumes how poorly case assortments are treated. How this item was repackaged for Force Link 2.0 is beyond comprehension. A simple visit to any retail establishment would have proven that it was the last set to repackage. Here we are in June 2018, and both Force Link 1.0 and Force Link 2.0 sets are piling up. They might as well start giving these away like Oprah gave away cars on that landmark episode of her show.
Let’s switch gears and check out The Force Awakens Finn (Jakku)/Chewbacca/Poe Dameron/Kylo Ren/First Order Stormtrooper Officer/First Order TIE Fighter Pilot TARGET exclusive 12-Inch Figure six-pack. You have to wonder if the voting has been hacked when The Last Jedi is beating out The Empire Strikes Back in a poll where StarWars.com is soliciting fan feedback for the best Star Wars film. Here we go again! Special thanks to our friends at Bantha Skull for alerting us to this May the 4th poll. We didn’t even know it existed!
NOTE: In case the results change after posting this article, The Last Jedi was leading the result with 30%. The Empire Strikes Back was the next highest film at 26%.
The MPAA report for 2017 was released yesterday. And like each year the report lists some informative statistics about the age of moviegoers, their ethnicity and overall gender share. Disney Star Wars is, among other things, about inclusivity, gender equality and Kathleen Kennedy’s own goal is to bring more girls and women on board the franchise. The MPAA reports since 2015 (when The Force Awakens was released) shed some light on how Lucasfilm’s strategy to win new fan groups has worked. Click through to learn more!
When The Last Jedi was released one of the questions left unanswered by The Force Awakens was who exactly Rey’s parents were. And Rian Johnson’s movie gave an answer: they were filthy junk traders who sold Rey off for drinking money and they’re buried in a pauper’s grave on Jakku.
Ever since then fans have speculated if that was what JJ Abrams really had in mind when he set up the mystery, or if he had any solution to the mystery at all. Now, actor Simon Pegg was interviewed for a podcast and he shed some light on what JJ Abrams’ plan was. Click through to find out more.
