Visions volume 2 was released almost two weeks ago and I took me this long to go through all the shorts, which usually are 11-15 minutes long give or take a minute. Still, I found it difficult this time to watch more than one at a time. In my opinion Visions Volume 2 is a lot worse than Volume 1 and Volume 2 not only highlights what is wrong with entertainment in general these days, but also highlights why Visions, which is, in principle, a very good idea, has completely gone off the rails. So click through for my take on Visions volume 2, the good, the bad and the very ugly.
Volume 2 of Star Wars: Visions is now available on Disney Plus.
The return of The Bad Batch for one final season was not the only animated Star Wars news. A trailer for Star Wars Visions 2, which will be released on May 4th, was also released. Check it out after the jump!
The new season of Star Wars Visions will have nine episodes by nine animation studios from all around the globe. Instead of using Japanese studios, Visions season 2 will feature animation studios from Spain, Ireland, the UK, South Korea, France, India, South Africa, Chile and just one studio from Japan. The best known studio here is probably Aardman from the UK who make the Wallace & Gromit shorts and movies.
The titles of the episodes are “Sith”, “Screecher’s Reach”, “In The Stars”, “I Am Your Mother”, “Journey To The Dark Head”, “The Spy Dancer”, “The Bandits Of Golak”, “Au’s Song” and “The Pit”. “The Pit” was made in collaboration with Lucasfilm.
Will you check out the new season of Star Wars Visions?
JTA reader Patrice found the Star Wars Visions Twins set this past week in France.
Just found yesterday (11/11/22) at Micromania Zing in France (a.k.a Gamestop), statues of the Twins Am and Karre from Star Wars Visions. A little over 18.5cm tall, about 7″ not counting the included stand.
It’s a bit remarkable as Banpresto typically only do manga and anime statues from famous series like Dragon Ball, One Piece… never Star Wars.
In a neat little packaging trick, once lined up the boxes show the shape of the Twin’s goofy looking double ISD. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the report, Patrice!
Kotobukiya reveals their latest ARTFX statue, from Star Wars Visions. Check out The Ronin ARTFX Statue from the episode The Duel. Click through for the full description and photo gallery.
Now this is very unexpected. Target in the US just revealed two brand new SH Figuarts Star Wars action figures based on Star Wars Visions. The twins Am and Karre! This is potentially big news because Bandai only has a license for Japan, this is the first time an SHF Star Wars action figure is officially (not as an import) distributed in the US! Maybe Hasbro’s license does not cover anime figures?
You can preorder Am and Karre at Target! Price per figure is $84.99. No word yet when Japanese etailers may offer them of it they will also be sold officially in Europe now! It’s certainly very welcome that SH Figuarts offers Visions merchandise! There is so much more they could do! What other Visions figures would you love to see?
Hasbro completely ignores Star Wars Visions, the anthology series showcasing different takes on the Star Wars universe by Japanese anime studios. Whether you liked the shorts or not, you certainly won’t deny the fact that various character designs or even smaller things like the different lightsabers that more resemble traditional katana are visually striking and would make for excellent (action) figures. But this is a world where Marvel’s “What If” animated series can get a dedicated figure line in Marvel Legends (by the very same company that also has the Star Wars license), but Star Wars Visions gets nothing and things like The Bad Batch and even The Mandalorian get the bare minimum. Japanese toy company Banpresto is now the first to offer at least something for fans of the Visions aesthetics. You can buy three vinyl statues, the main characters from the short “The Twins” and Ronin from the episode of the same title. Why is the support of new Star Wars entertainment by Hasbro so lackluster and seriously lacking in almost any respect? Check out the Visions statues after the jump and let’s also discuss the appaling lack of support for new Star Wars series and movies by Hasbro.
For those interested, you can now order the Star Wars: Visions Payoff poster. This is a full-sized 27″ W x 40″ H poster and is presented in double-sided, mirror-image format. Thanks Colin for the alert! Don’t forget, if you need points you can pick them up on eBay.
On to the next Visions short! The Elder is a rather simple tale about a Jedi master and his padawan and their encounter with a Sith, but it’s pretty well done. So let’s talk about The Elder!
T0-B1 is yet another wildly different take on Star Wars. The short revolves around a droid called, you guess it, T0-B1 who becomes a Jedi… yes you heard that right. So let’s talk about T0-B1!
There is almost universal praise for The Ninth Jedi. And for good reason. The 21 minute short is an ideal starting point for a true Star Wars sequel. If you ignored all Star Wars Visions shorts so far make an exception for The Ninth Jedi, it is the Star Wars fans deserve! So let’s talk about The Ninth Jedi!
After the frantic The Twins, The Village Bride chooses a much calmer, serene tone for its story. But is the short any good? Let’s talk about episode four of Star Wars Visions: The Village Bride!
The third Star Wars Visions short, The Twins, may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it’s not only a huge improvement over the previous short, at its core it’s also actually pretty intriguing. Let’s talk about The Twins!
Tatooine Rhapsody is the second of the Visions shorts and it couldn’t be any more different than the first episode. But is it any good? Let’s talk about Tatooine Rhapsody!
Disney released all nine Star Wars Visions episodes early Wednesday morning. Since I am neither well versed in anime (I do watch a few shows and movies – few of the usual ones though – so, I am far from being an expert) and my knowledge of Japanese cinema is limited to the occasional Akira Kurosawa and Godzilla (sorry, Gojira) movie I will not provide proper reviews and a few details and things may go completely over my head. But what I will do is provide a few thoughts here and there and I also want to give you an opportunity to talk about the new series here on JTA! Since all nine episodes were released at once it would be too much and too confusing to talk about them all in one article, instead I will post one article each day, for the next nine days or so where we can talk about Visions! So let’s begin with “The Duel”, the first of the Visions episodes. And yes, there will be some spoilers, so if you don’t want to be spoiled you should stay away from the Visions articles!
