Welcome to another entry in our The Vintage Collection: The Ninety Six column. Hasbro recently made a commitment to collectors that they will be “focusing” on characters in The Vintage Collection that fall under “The Ninety Six” banner. If you’re new to this, it means that for every classic Kenner figure, there needs a modern counterpart. Between 2020 and 2021, Hasbro’s made an admirable effort by focusing on these characters. But there is more work to be done, and we’ll figure out where we are step by step.
We’re right in alignment with Hasbro in our vintage Kenner database. There are 21 figures under the STAR WARS banner, 29 figures under THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK banner, 31 figures under the RETURN OF THE JEDI banner, and 15 figures under THE POWER OF THE FORCE banner. (Sy Snootles, Max Rebo, Droopy McCool, and Blue Snaggletooth brings the number to an even 100 figures.)
Read our assessment, and then be sure to add your thoughts into the comments. Let us know if you agree or disagree. If you’re a customizer, show us your custom definitive figure in the comments as well! Who knows? It might give Hasbro some ideas.
The Black Series 6″ Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary Greedo isn’t accurate to the on-screen character of Greedo, but it’s not accurate to the vintage Kenner Greedo either! (more….)

Hasbro did collectors of The Vintage Collection no favors with the announcement of the Death Star Droid. It STILL doesn’t reflect the modern counterpart of the on-screen character, because, well, it’s a modern counterpart to the Kenner figure only. (more….)
We have our next Visual Guide Update from The Black Series, featuring the Jawa in original Kenner deco. Click below for the full guide page. Make sure to also check out our full review of this figure right here.
Hasbro just produced a small group of 6″ figures based on the deco of their vintage Kenner counterparts. We now look at the Jawa and it’s slightly disappointing. (more….)
Tonight we are adding the awesome original Kenner deco The Black Series Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi to the Visual Guides. Click below for the full Visual Guide page. You can also check out our full review of this figure right here.
Hasbro just produced a small group of 6″ figures based on the deco of their vintage Kenner counterparts. The Black Series 6″ collectors didn’t ask for them (they probably don’t want them). But The Vintage Collection collectors have asked for action figures like this since 1995. Hasbro said they would NEVER do this. Fibbers. That said, Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi is one of the best 6″ figures ever produced. We hope the 6″ collecting community appreciates a gift like this! (more….)
That’s a wrap! We concluded our Research Droids Reviews on The Vintage Collection Wave 29, including the long-awaited Return Of The Jedi Boba Fett. If you missed any, be sure to catch up. The carded images are finally updated.
According to CNBC, “sales of [Hasbro’s] licensed content from entertainment studios fell 12% to $1.08 billion for the full year, [but] its sales of Star Wars grew by 70% over that period.” That’s a pretty hefty percentage for a single year. What on earth, do you suppose, could have possibly contributed to such an increase in sales? That’s rhetorical, by the way. The article without stating it directly basically says “The Mandalorian was really great for business.” Do you expect Hasbro to increase their product due to these sales? How much do you think The Black Series vs The Razorcrest campaign contributed to these numbers? Let us know what you think in the comments!
This is it, folks! We know it’s being made, we got all the unlock tiers, and it’s now the final day to back the Razorcrest! Get on over to Hasbropulse today to back one for yourself! Like the sail barge, this is Haslab exclusive, so if you don’t back it today, you’re likely to pay aftermarket prices a year from now. Don’t forget, too, if you’re one of our overseas readers you can back through Zavvi. This is going to be the biggest Haslab yet! Way to show how much we care about The Vintage Collection!
Wow! Take a look at that! It appears Hasbro has heard the cries of many OT fans for a definitive ROTJ Boba Fett. This one has been a long time coming. It look like they have taken the new 6″ TBS Boba and shrunk it down to the right size. I’ll certainly be pre-ordering this one. What about you? Click here to see more photos.
Welcome back, Toy Runners! I’ve been seeing reports of some great finds at Target and mail deliveries of Hascon exclusives lately. I hope we’ll see what you got this last week in the comments. I got a lot of toys this last week… I mean a lot. I didn’t get a chance to take a big group shot, so there will be lots to look at in this article! Click here to check it out!
In 1984, new packaging for Star Wars figures was introduced for the European market. A cost containment initiative, the new packaging sported three languages of the Return Of The Jedi logo for a “one size fits all” approach. Although a “three-logo” design was created for The Power Of The Force line (as evidenced on some ‘boxed’ toys), it wasn’t carried over to the basic figure line’s card design. They continued to use the three Return Of The Jedi logos instead. Although the word “Trilogo” is found nowhere on the packaging, the term is universally adopted by all Star Wars collectors to describe this line of figures.
Today we revisit Imperial TIE Fighter Pilot. Imperial TIE Fighter Pilot comes with all-new card art based on a film-ou from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. See the full Trilogo card art and additional notes by revisiting 1982’s THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Imperial TIE Fighter Pilot figure HERE.

Well, color us surprised. Hasbro redid the Photo Real application on this Luke Skywalker (Stormtrooper) figure. We had no idea they intended to update it with any changes at all. It’s an excellent 3.75″ super-articulated action figure. We have a definitive version of this character finally. Are you repurchasing it for your collection? (more….)
