Precisely ONE YEAR AGO today we began our run of vintage Kenner Research Droids Reviews. Because the vintage Kenner line served as the catalyst which shaped our hearts and minds as Star Wars collectors, it makes total sense that they were one of our most successful columns here in the history of Jedi Temple Archives. Our readers recounted numerous childhood stories and events of what made the vintage Kenner Star Wars toy line what it was and why it has left an indelible mark on their lives. Because of the column’s success, we’ve decided to relaunch the series, with every review posted on the anniversary of its first publishing in 2018. If you’re new to the site or you’d like to relive these fantastic figures, galleries, and infinite details, please partake once again. It seems appropriate to do this with the launch of the Retro Collection. As a bonus, we’re updating the best “Hasbro Modern Counterpart” should any of the original choices changed. Stay tuned for the first “re-release” today! Thanks again for making the column a roaring success.

We have a sneak peek of the first wave of Retro Collection figures for you to see. I love these things. But what a shame that Hasbro didn’t launch this line for the 40th anniversary of Star Wars. I hope they take the line as far as possible. Droids, Ewoks, unproduced vintage Kenner figures are only the beginning. And I would LOVE to see 1985 The Power Of The Force figures added as well. Right now they’re exclusively available at TARGET beginning May 12th, but they will have more widespread availability later this year in the Fall. Check them out and leave your thought about them in our review pages!

Was it worth the wait? Decide for yourself in our Research Droids Reviews today! Be sure to leave your thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or comment about it on our Facebook page. Or maybe we’ll never get an accurate ANH Chewbacca at all! Well, of course, things had to go south as we get closer to the release date of the unacceptably long-awaited Chewbacca figure on a Star Wars card. As Hasbro releases high-resolution images, one can’t help to notice the devastatingly huge mistake they made. Get ready for the VOTC Episode VI Chewbacca for our “A New Hope” Chewy. What a travesty. Also, what in Heaven’s name is up with these name pills Hasbro? Your art department is CLUELESS. Please fix this immediately. Thanks to all who wrote in to ruin my morning with this news. 🙂

StarWars.com reveals that Hasbro’s Sarah Carroll is the next Senior Brand Marketing Manager of Star Wars at Hasbro. Whether or not Ms. Carroll is a direct replacement for Steve Evans is just speculation to be clear.
Update: Photo of Ms. Carroll added
Update 2: Steve Evans remarked in a Vintage Collection Facebook group that Sarah Carroll will NOT be involved with design, she will be responsible for marketing only! So she’s not a replacement for Steve!

“At Hasbro, we strive to provide our customers with the best possible experience with our portfolio brands. As a valued customer, we wanted to let you know that our brand websites have changed and will no longer sell products directly. That said, you can still access your account and check existing orders using your login at Hasbro Toy Shop. Please contact us at [email protected] or 1-800-408-0052 with any questions.”
…. there is no need for concern. It only applies to their “in-house’ brands and those that have their own websites with a shop (like My Little Pony’s website for example). It doesn’t have any effect on Star Wars or other product already sold on Hasbro Toy Shop. Or, that’s what I was directly told by my source at Hasbro Toy Shop. Should anything develop with Star Wars, I will be sure to relay the message.

YouTube Channel HelloGreedo released a short but informative video earlier today. He talks about that Star Wars magic we felt as kids and if it’s all gone now. In my opinion he makes some great points here. I believe it’s time to step back a bit and to take in the whole picture. We can get lost in debates about the handling of Luke in The Last Jedi, the distribution of toys, whether or not Kathleen Kennedy is the worst studio president ever, when in fact none of that matters that much or not at all even to the new generation. Which doesn’t mean we shouldn’t debate these things, we definitely should, but we shouldn’t think that this is something of utmost importance to everyone. So check out that short 4 minute video and maybe it will make you feel better about Star Wars again. Thanks to JTA regular Matthew C. for the tip! As always, leave your own thoughts in the comments!

The infamous tunghori listed “Lieutenant Oxixo” on his eBay store, claiming it’s the one from The Vintage Collection Imperial TIE Fighter vehicle. (Our review for that vehicle is RIGHT HERE.) However, if you look at the images, this figure has a removable helmet (something Hasbro changed with the TVC release). I am not sure if he listed old images, or if this is really the TVC figure for sale, but I found it interesting. My figure has a black head with a black chin. It’s hard to see the rest because the head is glued inside of the helmet.

New loose images of The Vintage Collection Imperial TIE Fighter have surfaced on social media and we’re disappointed to report that the Imperial TIE Fighter Pilot is the same old 2008 The Legacy Collection Evolutions sculpt. Specifically, it looks like the Lieutenant Oxixio figure from 2011’s SW [SOTDS] Battle Over Endor (1 of 2) set. Check out the gallery of new images on our Facebook page! Special thanks to JTA reader Matthew C. for the news!
