Museu do Caramulo is hosting a temporary exhibition entitled “The Power of the Force: Toys and Posters from Star Wars (1977-85)”, dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Star Wars saga. May is over and we finished the 12-Back vintage Kenner collection. But June is Droids And Creatures Plus Two Main Features month at Jedi Temple Archives! You guessed it! We will be looking at the 20/21-Backs that augmented an already fantastic Series 1 collection of Kenner Star Wars figures. Come with us as we look at Cantina denizens and droid prisoners in addition to a main hero and cool villain. June is going to be a blast!

We have just completed our intense look at the first series of vintage Kenner Star Wars figures: the 12-Backs. Because May is typically a Star Wars month and 2018 is the 40th anniversary that vintage Kenner Star Wars figures arrived at retail, we felt it was the perfect time to start vintage Kenner reviews. (Oh, and let us not forget The Vintage Collection’s return is another huge motivator of this run too.) Each new month, we will focus on a new series of figures where we’ll finish the complete vintage Kenner run in December with the 1985 The Power Of The Force line. Already, they are receiving wonderful feedback and tons of you are checking them out. But we want more of your stories, so please leave them in our comments. For years, our readers have requested we open up categories in our Research Droids Reviews for the incredible vintage Kenner Star Wars action figures, a line where 5POA WAS OK. With the rebirth of The Vintage Collection, the 40th anniversary of when the first Star Wars figures hit retail (in 1978), and May the 4th, everything has been perfectly aligned for us to deliver this to you finally. We feel now is a picture-perfect time to begin our trek down this road.

We want this to be an interactive experience for YOU. I prattle enough about the modern Hasbro figures, so we want these “reviews” to be more reflective and nostalgic, just like the figures. You’ll notice a MAJOR revision to our review template. It now features a vintage Kenner-inspired theme and a different approach to the discussion. For us, these 92+ specimens are perfect as is. It would be futile to rate them as good, average or poor. So you’re also not going to see a summary describing the figure or how it ranks among others. Instead, I will be sharing my own personal experiences growing up with vintage Kenner Star Wars figures (in a very brief write up), and in turn, I want you to share your experiences with me in the comments.

The poll has also changed. You still have five options, but they focus on your personal experience with the figure at hand, not how you’d rank it among other vintage Kenner figures. You’ll still find a great deal of collector-friendly notes and documented variations that exist. Also, we want to emphasize that these reviews are a work in progress. If you think other valuable information should be included here, feel free to drop us a line and let us know what we’re missing.

In addition, we have Star Wars Rebels, Battlefront II, and the various novels and comics that have been released under this new leadership. Well here is a CRAZY article. io9 has just posted a list of top-ranking Star Wars characters, and final results show that Jar Jar Binks is more revered than Kylo Ren. No surprise for me, but check out the results and be sure to come back to discuss it here!

New York Post posted an article, of which part of it reads: “There is fatigue with ‘Star Wars’ and all the hype surrounding the movies,” said BMO Capital Markets toy analyst, Gerrick Johnson. Disney decided to unspool “Star Wars” films in consecutive Decembers. The first movie, 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” sparked much interest in its toy line. The reaction at retail was much more muted for 2016’s “Rogue One.” Too much of a good thing, it appears, is bad for the toy business.
