Not all that much was revealed for The Black Series in today’s livestream!
There were also three pipeline reveals! Click through for the details!
2022 lies behind us, the perfect opportunity to look back and to see how many Black Series sets we had in 2022 and under what categories they fell. How many new figures did we get? How many kitbashes were among them? How many exclusives are there? I also look back all the way back to 2013 to show you how the line has changed throughout the years! So click through for all the details about the Black Series in 2022!
The Hasbro Pulse Con Star Wars panel had several goodies for Black Series fans. One major focus was Andor and we get a few surprising, but very welcome figures from the show in The Black Series! Another focus was the upcoming 2023 40th anniversary Return of the Jedi line and finally, the Black Series pipeline reveals offer one or two surprises as well, that will probably be welcomed by collectors! So click through for all the details!
The Hasbro Star Wars SDCC panel just ended and a few all new figures were revealed for The Black Series, as well as a ton of repaints! Click through for all the details!
With the second failed Black Series HasLab in a row the question is what could be next. To put the blame for the two failures on the Black Series as a toyline is shortsighted, since both HasLabs were either half-baked lazy attempts (Rancor) or mindboggling choices (Reva’s lightsaber, really???) to begin with.
It’s a moot discussion about who’s to blame here, it’s most likely Lucasfilm in my opinion – with some assistance by the Hasbro Star Wars team. The big question is if Hasbro should give the Black Series one more try at HasLab.
We will not talk about potential TVC HasLabs here, since TVC has several no-brainers that would almost certainly be a success, like the Death Star Playset, the Cantina from A New Hope, maybe a Sandcrawler or even the Ghost from Rebels (with crew). It would be a good idea to have the next Star Wars HasLab be a TVC item and only after that Hasbro should revisit the Black Series.
So what would be some good choices (for a change!) for a Black Series HasLab? Click through for my ideas and then add your own ideas and suggestions in the comments. Lucasfilm and Hasbro seem to be in dire need of some help here!
And that’s it… The Reva Force FX Lightsaber HasLab ended with a resounding “thud”. Final backer number is 1,413, which is not even close to the 5,000 people who were needed. That is the second failed Star Wars Black Series HasLab in a row. Hasbro and Lucasfilm should do some deep soul searching and evaluate the situation.
Why did the Black Series ever get these extremely lackluster HasLabs to begin with? The Rancor looked merely “ok”, but not great, the tiers were a bad joke (a cardboard backdrop, really? Repacked figures?) and Reva’s lightsaber was dead in the water right from the start. Whoever thought people might want that? Either Lucasfilm or Hasbro (or both) need a reality check. Well, they got one for free now with a failed HasLab that only convinced a little more than 1,400 people to back a Force FX lightsaber for a brand new Star Wars character that is maybe not as popular as Lucasfilm would like it.
The Hasbro Pulse YouTube channel has a new series of unboxing videos in which designers Eric, Emily and Chris post short videos about newly announced action figures. Of course these are still mostly promos and not proper reviews, but the videos give you a good glimpse at several newly revealed Black Series and Vintage Collection action figures in great detail and could be of interest to you. Click through for all the various unboxing videos for TBS and TVC figures!
To no one’s surprise after the accidental leak on Hasbro’s very own HasLab page a few days ago, the brand new Reva Force FX lightsaber HasLab was also revealed at the Hasbro panel! Price is $499.99, the campaign ends on July 11th. 5,000 backers are required to make the lightsaber a reality. There will be NO tiers!
I would say this could be do-able, since there are quite a few cosplayers and lightsaber collectors out there. But we will see how much momentum the campaign will have after the weekend is over! $499.99 for a saber that won’t even let you fly around like a helicopter is still a lot of money after all!
You can back your Reva lightsaber on the HasLab page!
Are you interested in the new Star Wars HasLab or is it nothing for you? Let us know in the comments!
Hasbro are currently holding their panel at Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim! So we can expect a few reveals in the next minutes! I will post them after the jump, so click through for everything new we learn from the panel!
UPDATE: article is now complete with ALL Black Series and Vintage Collection reveals!
And the reveals continue! We got Reva a few days ago, we got the Grand Inquistor earlier today and now we also have the Fifth Brother from the brand new Obi-Wan Kenobi series! Check out the figure in the box below:
You can find more photos on the Hasbro Pulse Facebook page!
How do you like the figure? We now have three of the four Inquisitors seen so far on the show as Black Series figures. I wonder if the unnamed female Inquisitor will also get made to complete the team.
The figure will be available for pre-order on Hasbro Pulse on June 1st, 1pm ET! Will you try to secure your figure?
Hasbro revealed the brand new Black Series Grand Inquisitor from the Obi-Wan Kenobi today! Pre-order date is June 1st, 1pm ET. Here you can see actor Rupert Friend with his Grand Inquisitor action figure:
No spoilers here, I will post the review of the first two Kenobi episodes on Saturday, but let’s wait and see how many people will want the Grand Inquisitor action figure after this weekend!
Will you pre-order the figure? What other Kenobi figures would you like to get? You can find more pictures of the figure on the official Hasbro Pulse Facebook page!
As part of the Obi-Wan Wednesday the Reva Black Series action figure was officially revealed today on the official Star Wars website. Reva will also come to The Vintage Collection and the Retro Collection. And if you want to you can also buy a Funko Pop version of her! It seems Lucasfilm is going all in with Reva and that they want to push her to become the next fan favorite character.
The figure seems to have a cloth cape, which is ideal for an action oriented character that will probably do a lot of fighting. The other female Inquistor figure we have from Fallen Order did come with a plastic cape which hindered articulation. So cloth is certainly the superior choice here.
Pre-order for Black Series Reva starts Thursday at 10 am! Let’s see who can beat the bots this time!
Will you get Reva? Or will you wait for the series to air to see what kind of character she is?
Reva’s lightsaber HasLab was not the only thing that was accidentally leaked by Hasbro on their own Pulse website. A new Black Series “Selfie” line is coming. It’s basically a Black Series 6 inch figure with your own head. The exact details are still unknown – where and how your head will be scanned – but price will be $59.99. Click through for a few more photos!
Today’s May 4th Hasbro livestream was actually quite decent. Five new Black Series figures were revealed, two new quite impressive roleplay items and we got another two pipeline reveals! Click through for all the details!
Here are the Black Series reveals from today’s fan first livestream. To say there are somewhat underwhelming is probably an understatement. Unless you’ve always wanted an all white Darth Vader figure maybe… Click through for all the reveals!
Your go to Star Wars fansite io9/Gizmodo (look up sarcasm in the dictionary 😉 ) has an exclusive reveal today: a brand new Black Series Cad Bane figure! The figure is sourced from The Bad Batch, NOT the Book of Boba Fett. This Cad Bane seems to have some new parts, including a new head, torso and arms, but is otherwise based on the previous Clone Wars release of the character.
Release is scheduled for winter 2022. Price tag is an astounding $28. That is without Cad’s droid Todo. The only accessories are Cad Bane’s two blasters. Pre-orders become available tomorrow, February 16th, at 1 pm EST.
Head over to Gizmodo for their write up and a few more photos!
Today’s livestream had very little to offer for Black Series collectors. Hasbro “revealed” yet more repacks for the Archive line and another Gaming Greats repaint. While it’s certainly nice to make old figures available again for new fans, the fans who have been collecting the line for several years would like to get some new figures as well. The most exciting thing was the pipeline reveal. Figures we will get in mid to late 2023…. And the figures are Aayla Secura, Darth Maul from Clone Wars season 7 and Saw Gerrera from Rogue One. Click through to see the Archive reveals.
Is anyone else sick and tired of not seeing any The Vintage Collection (or The Black Series) merchandise at his or her local brick and mortar? Yet the worst crap Hasbro could make still makes its way to shelves without a hitch? Click through to check out the latest nightmare Hasbro is trying to sell to “kids and gift-buying parents.” LOL, Hasbro, It’s not 2010 anymore. Oh, and they’re still trying to pimp Rey as a viable Star Wars character that everyone wants to see reflected in the action figure line. LOL again.
Since the 6 inch scale Black Series was introduced in 2013 the line has changed a lot. The figures have improved in many ways and the releases have become much more numerous. In this article I want to focus on how many regular releases, exclusive releases, rereleases, repaints and kitbashes there have been each year. And while the numbers may not surprise any collector they are still quite eye-opening. This will be a lengthy examination and discussion of the line. So click through for the Black Series overview!
We are entering the finishing straight for the HasLab Rancor! In roughly 24 hours the campaign will end – unless Hasbro announce an extension of the deadline today. The Rancor currently has 5,605 backers, about 62% of the required funding. At this point in time all the other successful HasLabs had already been funded and had experienced a massive boost. The Rancor has only added 120-200 backers each day ever since Malakili was added to the offering, not even 900 backers in total.
So what will it be? Yay or nay? What do you think? Place your bet and feel free to share any other musings you have in the comments! This will be the go to HasLab Rancor discussion thread for the final day of the campaign!
BREAKING NEWS!
Well, it seems Hasbro DOES actually listen to fan feedback! They just announced that the Rancor Keeper Malakili will be added to the Rancor! He will come uncarded and will be added to the Rancor as no additional tier, instead he will come no matter what, as soon as the Rancor receives funding. Right now, the Rancor has 4,763 backers. It will need to almost double that number in the next six days to be successful!
So, what is your opinion? Will it change your mind and will you back the Rancor now? Or is it too little too late?
In my opinion Hasbro could have avoided much drama if they had included Malakili from the very beginning. It’s apparent Hasbro hoped to get away with as little as possible, but the fans have spoken. It’s welcome that Hasbro has listened. However, if would be even better if fans didn’t have to voice their displeasure so vehemently for Hasbro to do something! It’s pretty apparent they are quite desperate so late in the campaign.

JTA has just received intel of the next two Tiers: Tier 3 for 15,500 backers, and Tier 4 for 20,000 backers. Click the image below for the reveal! These next two tiers are bound to reduce the number of current backers further to a much lower number, as evidenced by what Tier 2 did to the backer count today!
Hasbro completely ignores Star Wars Visions, the anthology series showcasing different takes on the Star Wars universe by Japanese anime studios. Whether you liked the shorts or not, you certainly won’t deny the fact that various character designs or even smaller things like the different lightsabers that more resemble traditional katana are visually striking and would make for excellent (action) figures. But this is a world where Marvel’s “What If” animated series can get a dedicated figure line in Marvel Legends (by the very same company that also has the Star Wars license), but Star Wars Visions gets nothing and things like The Bad Batch and even The Mandalorian get the bare minimum. Japanese toy company Banpresto is now the first to offer at least something for fans of the Visions aesthetics. You can buy three vinyl statues, the main characters from the short “The Twins” and Ronin from the episode of the same title. Why is the support of new Star Wars entertainment by Hasbro so lackluster and seriously lacking in almost any respect? Check out the Visions statues after the jump and let’s also discuss the appaling lack of support for new Star Wars series and movies by Hasbro.
The Black Series Rancor HasLab was launched 9 days ago. One day after the Rancor the very first GI Joe HasLab followed. And while the GI Joe HasLab is quite different, it’s much cheaper, it may still be interesting to compare the two. So where is the Rancor after 9 days and how does it compare to the GI Joe Skystriker? Click through for more info!
